Please can anyone advise me regarding using nippy machine outdoors, my hubby uses one for retaining carbon dioxide but lately he is using it more often he says it helps him breathe, he has severe emphysema he is not on oxygen but even though he doesn't go out because he is shielding I feel he will never be able to go outside again if he is reliant on this machine , he is very breathless just walking around the house so he goes on it when he is struggling with his breathing.

Nippy machine outdoors
I would suggest if he is that breathless round the house he should give his consultant a ring and get checked out. I know its not easy under lockdown but i would push for him to be seen
Maybe give respertory nurse a ring at your surgery or hospital to maybe check if inhalers are needed or oxygen.
Hi Dazbazbez, if your husband needs to use his Nippy machine outside, depending on the make of machine, you can get battery packs for them.My BiPAP machine is a ResMed and you can get battery packs for it, I don’t need my machine apart from at bedtime, but I have looked into in case I needed it for travelling, you can also get back up power supplies to use for camping like this: hope2sleep.co.uk/atom-batte..., I hope this is of some help to you.
Ian.
The nippy is used for going out with. I’m on bipap machine but when I go out I use my nippy as that is run off battery which is about 8 hours running time before it needs charging.
Until I got my nippy I was housebound with being on bipap 18+ hours a day now I can go out when Covid allows.
Thanks you everybody for your replies, can you advise me how you use your bipap outdoors, he has a Nippy 4 for retaining carbon dioxide but is using it more now to help with his breathing he has been shielding for months and it would be nice just to take him for a drive for a change of scenery but without his nippy he starts having panic attacks there is a battery that came with it but we was never told anything about it e.g. how do we charge it and how long does it last,we were never told we could use it outdoors and because of the virus Wythenshawe hospital are not holding any clinics, really appreciate any advice, Take Care
Sorry to hear about your situation, have you thought about looking on YouTube for answers on how to change the battery etc. Just type in YouTube and what you are looking for.good luck !x
