Hi all could someone please tell me what the smaller, quieter concentrator machine is called as I have little or no sleep anyway but when I do manage to nod off the house of my machine wakes me up. I have just rung my home oxygen team and the one I spoke to hadn't got a clue what I was talking about. Help needed !!!! Jenny

Hi Jenny, this sounds ridiculous. It sounds like the housing is loose and vibrating. I don't have much knowledge of concentrators - the only time I've had one was when i had pneumonia earlier in the year. It was very large, very quiet too - it just gave a muted "thunk" kind of sound about every 30 seconds as i remember. Quite comforting as it was a sound like the engine of the ferries to northern ireland I would take each summer with my parents as a child. Definitely NO vibrating or noise from my concentrator.

If yours is keeping you awake, this is a clinical matter, not just a matter of inconvenience. Not getting enough sleep is dangerous for you and makes you more liable to catch infections - they should be treating it, maybe not as an emergency, but certainly as urgent. I'd try the company again and ask for the supervisor if you get no joy to begin with. If they don't want to come out, then tell them you will be contacting your respiratory nurse or GP - and do that.

In the meantime, is the concentrator in your bedroom, or outside? Can you put it further away to lessen the sound?

Hope you get something sorted :)

Hi thankyou for your reply. I have the machine in the next room but still too noisy, I have left a message for my oxygen nurse to get in contact with me to see if she cannot get something sorted out for me. Since 30/12/15 I have blacked out 7 times they don't know if its my heart now or my ILD progression so I really think some sleep would be helpful but being black and blue and the face swelling up I'm in a bit of a pickle at the moment 😊 lol.

Then this is an emergency Jenny. Glad you left a message for your oxygen nurse.

I don't know what oxygen company you are with. Mine's Dolby Vivisol and i get ambulatory cylinders from them. They are very helpful but I've seen at least one post here about how rubbish their company was. I really hope yours gets the message and does something quick.

Im sorry you're having such a horrible time.

But as they say life goes on so until they sort it out for me I will grin and bear it. The company I'm with is Air liquid who are usually good. Jenny

Hi Craftyone

I am sitting in our study with the two oxygen concentrators chugging away. They are noisy if you are in the same room as them. I would suggest you phone Air Liquide and ask for the concentrator to be serviced asap. You may also want to consider moving the machine to a room further away from your bedroom, Air Liquide should move it for you. Sorry I don't know of any quieter machines. If all else fails you could try foam or wax ear plugs. They work for me!

All the Best

Thankyou Mandy I will try the ear plugs untill I get things sorted out. I never thought of using them. Jenny

G'day jenny

Re your noisy concentrator, I am assuming you have a short hose attached??

If so contact air liquid and request a 50ft hose.

We do not hear the concentrator at night.

Hope this may help you

Kind regards

Will

Have you tried an "Anti vibration mat" under it?

Hello all just to let you know I managed to speak with my oxygen nurse and she has arranged for Air liquid to bring one of the quieter machines out tomorrow. Success. Jenny
