Merry Christmas to you all. I'm on oxygen 24/7 I have a concentrator at home and use canisters when out. I also use the canisters to give me an extra boost to get upstairs as my blood saturation drops dramatically and I cough lots
It subsides after about 5 mins. Previously.my oxygen had been supplied by Air Liquide this has recently been taken over by BOC. Today I found out they no longer offer emergency canisters. So they effectively "won" the contract on the basis of providing a lesser service. Today its Christmas eve I have 6 canisters to last me 4/5days. I keep active so this means I have to stay in more. I asked the person I phoned at BOC and her response was well you have a concentrator at home. When I pointed out it would mean me staying in...not bothered. I'm going to champion this with my MP and the NHS. Has this affected anyone else?

I don`t use oxygen or any other breaching air assistance system. But I am more than willing to sign any petition regarding this matter.
What you are experiencing with BOC is just another let down by a cheap skate government money saving exercise of a condition the CHEP SKATES don`t suffer from.....yet!!
Thank you for getting back to me yes I a. Def going to contact my MP and NHS this cost cutting exercise only serves to keep disabled people indoors. Very poor. I'll keep you updated.
fairly new to oxygen, but I’m. It I Mpressed with BOC.I find the telephone service uncaring and is Un professional .rhey replaced my equipment in 2 separate visits,so 2 lots of hanging around. They don’t provide trolleys for concentrator.
Wow, that’s dreadful. I too have a concentrator and canisters that Are filled from liquid oxygen. My choice rather than cylinders. Also from Air Liquide. You must have enough mobile canisters for your needs. Ring your oxygen nurse to get the prescription changed. They must provide what is asked for.
Not sure which concentrator you have but some can have a 'top fill'unit fitted to them which enables you to fill canisters supplied with the unit at home and the 'base' unit can be used separately. The oxygen supplier Dolby vivisol supplies them in the south and I would imagine they would be available in your area.Your oxygen nurse should be able to help you.
I have used oxygen from BOC for many years now and have never found them anything but very helpful. I like you have an oxygen concentrator for use in the home plus I have 6 of the DD size cylinders. Now each cylinder normally should last you about 7 hours but you can double this by using a conserver on the tank if you don't have one ask if you can be supplied with one this would give you ample use over a week for 6 cylinders to last you when out and about. Hope this helps you
Hi Cazza, I’m sure if you tell the hospital what your needs are they’ll instruct your supplier to fulfil the order. Have you considered a portable concentrator? I have one and find it way better than cylinders as can be recharged if out and in the car. The hospital will amend your prescription to what suits you but be prepared to tell them what you want/need to have a quality of life. Be prepared to stamp your feet a bit though. Good luck, I’m sure you’ll get there in the end. Joy x
Aww! Mine is pulsed. They do a big machine that is portable, like a suitcase, that’s constant flow though. Prob a bit too big to drag about on a daily basis though. Good luck. Joy x
