Hi, I certainly do think you should have seen someone, they should be checking that you are coping alright with the 24/7 oxygen. My oxygen nurse phones me every three months and comes to see me every five or six my. But if I phone her with a problem she alwaysbisiits me. Have a lovely day and take care 😊 Bernadette and Jack πŸ• xxxxxx

benney123β€’ in reply toDamon1864

wish mine was like that or is it just NHS wakefield

I agree it would have been helpful if someone had telephoned to check on you especially so after you had been newly prescribed oxygen, and in between 1st nd 2nd lockdown would have thought they could have called you in for a routine check. But I guess it depends where you live and if you were in a high risk covid area.

Give the BLF helpline a call for further advice and support blf.org.uk/support-for-you/...

Hope you are doing ok benney and better care is worked out for you.

Best wishes BK

send them a email the other day and nothing it must be just me noone care

β€’ in reply tobenney123

Give it a little more time regarding the email. If you are having any difficult benney either make a telephone appointment with your GP, chat with your consultants secretary, phone 111 service or complete on-line form, telephone your oxygen supplier, phone your local Age UK if you are home alone and having difficulty taking care of yourself. BLF helpline as suggested above may be able to advise you further.

Help is available but sometime you have to go all out and ask for it communicating your difficulty.

I'm newly diagnosed with Bronchiectasis and referred to Respiratory team at local hospital-but they've refused to see me as wrong Borough. Waiting now for weeks of anxiety for new referral to hospital miles away. Guidelines say I need physio quickly for lung clearance. Anxious as very hard to clear lung.

Not sure whether this may be of help to you.

Thanks Davegt. I will query this tomorrow! It may be that it is a community service at a hospital but I will phone the original consultant if I can. Very thoughtful of you. Thanks.

I really hope you can arrange this soon at the nearby hospital. Your health matters more than Borough boundaries. Take care πŸ˜€πŸ˜€πŸ˜†

I empathise with you - my mum ended up waiting ages - and in the meantime it would helped to know what to do (both for physical and stress reasons).I don't know your level of Broch or am qualified to give advice but just a general help:

1) Try having a hot long bath /shower often - and about10 mins afterwards try some clearance techniques (Active Cycle of Breathing - just find one of the many good sources on google e.g. NHS or some other recognised medical resource)

e.g.

bronchiectasis.com.au/resou...

bronchiectasis.com.au/physi...

physio-pedia.com/Active_Cyc...

Be careful that you are doing it correctly though as not doing so could cause damage.

A little and often seems to work for my mum, Try not to force it - eventually it should clear.

2) Keep hydrated - and walk - that moves the gunk in your lungs - but don't breathe in cold air)

3) Perhaps get a prescription for Carbosisteine - but make sure the doctor knows your sacns etc - so perhaps you can press the respiratory team about whether they recommend that for you.

Until the appropriate doctor sees your details it's difficult to know what else to suggest (as you don't want to cause damage).

And keep calling/pushing for help from the team! There is a huge demand for respiratory experts at the best of times so I hope you get some help soon.

It is scary at the beginning but a physio told me to think of Bronch as just baggy lungs!

I feel let down by the NHS. I am 83 and vulnerable. The Princess Royal Hospital texted me and said to phone a number to contact them because a vaccine is ready. I tried to phone all day Thursday and this morning. Cannot get through. They have asked too many to phone or they have logistical problems. Very frustrated and stressed. I have contacted PALS and they look into it. (Cannot get through to the main switchboard either).

Hi Benney123i am the same for over 6 x weeks when the pandemic started i didn't hear a bean and i thought as they are not making home visits they would have more time to make phone calls but no and they only asked if i was ok and nothing else.

still they may phone me with an update on when we seriously vulnerable people might get the vaccine, as we are not near the top of the list, 'oh there goes another pig in the sky'

You rightly feel let down by NHS but this is about the NHS feeling let down by the government as they have been over the past 25 years or more. Blame the governments not the NHS .

Davegt profile image
Davegtβ€’ in reply toJaybird19

Here we go. Blaming the Government for EVERYTHING!

Jaybird19 profile image
Jaybird19β€’ in reply toDavegt

I was blaming the govermments for the past 25 to 30 years or even more. Having worked for the NHS at various levels for 40 years I think I am qualified to do that. Do please read posts properly and do not jump to conclusions that I am referring only to the present government.

Davegt profile image
Davegtβ€’ in reply toJaybird19

I did read it properly. May I remind you of the rules of this forum. Nothing POLITICAL! You were going off topic and bringing criticism in that was not relevant to this lady's problem and was certainly not helping her.

Good for you but the NHS has needs more support than it has been given for many years . I spent all my life in the Γ‘HS and were often told o there was no money I once spent time finding out how far we could make one kit go and still be effective. Every year there was worry about the annual winter flu without tnis terrible pandemic . And as a out- patient to I have always had appointments rescheduled it used to be half-yearly then yearly , now last appointment was dec last and this Dec has been cancelled and then cancelled again with no date for replacement , not even a phone appointment

All GP appointments are now by phone which is better in some aspects. If they can judge who needs to be seen .

There are many GP vacancies advertised especially in the south. They need more nurses and need to reduce the use of bank nurses who are supplied by companies taking fees that could be spent on training more nurses. Bank nurses all so work in more than one hospital which is not good for infection control .

Sorry to go on so but it hurts to see all the criticism poured onto the NHS . I will not say any more.

may i ask you something now jaybird is it the gov or are all hosp in what they call truse now so is it not them that have to make the money go on thing that is need also have not most of these so call truse sold off lots of land to pivt people for car parking and get money back from that so where do that money go so may i ask should it not been up too the truse to buy the ppe that they was short of the NHS was much better run when it was run by the gove but other said they could run it better just like they said they could run the rallways better than the gove so now tell me who need to pay is it the gov or the truse

The government allocate the money for the trusts to run the services. Trusts can buy in services from different sources including private sector. Gp;s are independent businesses. They are paid rates per patient but for most of budget can spend it how they like. There are incentives for particular things that government are pushing for. One trust might say we want to allocate most of our non ring fenced budgets to cancer another might pour more money into respiratory services. I am very sorry for your situation. I suspect that as in most things it is the person who shouts the loudest who gets the most attention. Please don't give up send reminder emails. Best wishes

The virus is exploding so bad in the tiny rural area I live in. Our two hospitals are literally turning heart attack and stroke victims away from the ER. Scary. The nursing home in Tonasket Washington state has had to have the government bring in a special team. As half the patients died the other half are positive and 20 of the employees are positive for covid. Tonasket city has a total population of less then 2k

Perhaps if you call and say you're concerned that you haven't heard anything since March - is there a chance someone could call you as you are getting very worried? Hopefully you'll speak to a caring person.

so your saying then i should as they say dirnoise myself then tell then what may be wrong with me cos they cant be ass to keep in touch

Response profile image
Responseβ€’ in reply tobenney123

Sorry I was responding to Greenfingers20 .

I don't mean that you should diagnose yourself and don't know your full situation - to clarify, sometimes, with the NHS it's best to keep a polite but continuing dialogue going with any contacts you have e.g. in your case you seem to have had contact with the respiratory team, albeit in March, so perhaps you could call them again (if you haven't already), and ask for their suggestions of what to do as you've been waiting so long and need so help to understand the situation or what happens next.

Sorry for any confusion.
