Certain plants help. Our garden centre labels the plants that clean air. I have also stopped using chemical cleaners and most of my stuff now is plant based. I also no longer use things like pot pourri,air freshener and scented candles .

BLF has several page links of information regarding this;

blf.org.uk/search/site/indo...

If your pocket runs to it (and its well worth it) the Dyson air purifiers are worth reading about as well.

Generally, change the air in all rooms each day. You can do one room at a time if required or all at once. (20 minutes air change) Obviously if you live in a highly polluted area, when pollen count is high, someone is burning rubbish in their garden, you live next to busy main road you won't want to be opening the window in these situations.

Air quality is so important for easy breathing.

UK air quality outside is pretty good- your can check Defra website daily all year:

uk-air.defra.gov.uk/

Met office informationt on air pollution;

metoffice.gov.uk/weather/gu...

Aerosols a definate no no, some perfumes, detergents, bleach etc can irritate the airways so best to avoid these, Eco friendly brands usually ok.

Good to know these things :)

Airing the house by opening windows at different points for 5 minutes to allow for air flow is the best way. Doing it for 5 minutes only allows for air change without cooling down the fabric of the house, so it heats up again quickly. Ideally twice a day. I wrap myself in a blanket while the airing is going on and until the room has heated up again.

We use no chemicals or fragrances and have a lot of plants. However while plants do clean the air, I think this is largely a marketing ploy as to have much effect, I have read that you would need to have far more plants than your average dwelling could possibly accommodate. They lift the spirits though :)

Thanks O2 . I’ve just been opening a window for a few minutes but now I’ll open others to create a flow. Makes sense! 😃

I keep the internal doors open most of the time so the air circulates and open the back door when cooking, sometime during the day I open the front door so the house has a blast of fresh air. This may change a bit once the weather gets colder and just do one room at a time keeping all the doors closed x
