Raynaud’s Syndrome

Good Morning everyone, to add to my ailments it appears I am now suffering with Raynaud’s Syndrome. Some of the fingertips on my right hand turned very cold and blue/purple compared to the ordinary colour on the rest of my hand. For other people who suffer with this what action did you take to combat it apart from trying to keep warm.

I welcome your suggestions.

Our daughter has this condition. She learned to live with it. Has it hands feet and nose. Her hands feel as though they have been in the freezer

I am prescribed low dose fluoxetine to relieve the vasospasm. Evening primrose oil and other supplements have good results too.

From my understanding and limited experience there are two factors that you must consider. Obviously the first is keeping the affected areas warm. The second is avoiding stress which can make the situation worse and bring on symptoms. Other things that could help you are medications to improve circulation and relieve pain but that you would need to discuss with your GP or specialist.

I don't experience this myself, but NHS page information may be useful to you:

My mum has fairly recently been diagnosed with this. As well as the famous hydroxychloroquine she also uses comfrey. She makes tea from the leaves which she says helps, and she tried a comfrey rubbing oil which I’m guessing wasn’t helpful for her as she didn’t say much about that. Wishing you all the best.

Hi Joe. I dont sufferfrom Raynauds but my Mother did for years and she used to have battery controlled Hand & Feet warmers which were a big help to her. Good luck John

Hi. I have had primary Raynaud's all my life and was diagnosed in my 30s. My hands and lower arms, feet and lower legs, nose and ears can all be affected. I joined the Raynaud's Association raynauds.org/ and got a lot of advice from there as well as from my consultant at the time.

My main way of combating it is to wear lots of layers of clothing, to keep myself covered up. Whenever I go out I always look overdressed in comparison with most people, but I've learned to ignore that. I no longer follow fashion but my own style which keeps me warm and toasty.

You can get heated gloves but I found them too bulky. I do sometimes use simple hand warmers, but tend to wear leather gloves as these cut down the wind shear well.

Hope this helps, M.
