I have no experience of this, but there are clot dissolving drugs out there of varying strengths. Did they not prescribe for you when you were diagnosed?
Hi Kooko. I came out of hospital two weeks ago having suffered a Pulmonary Embolism. It left me struggling to breathe and very weak. They treated me with Heparin injections in the tummy for a week and then put me on Apixaban, a blood thinner to prevent any further clots forming. The consultant explained that the body (with help from Apixaban) will gradually get rid of the existing blood clot and that I may have to stay on these long term. I am being reviewed in two months. I still get short of breath and am now on Oxygen when moving around but I am hopeful that after a couple of months I may get back to somewhere close to where I was before π€ Good luck. John
Good luck to you too. I will pray for all of us good healing us.
May I ask why they not use Clot dissolvers (thrombolytics) with our conditions?
I dont know. I trusted my consultant and went with whatever they suggetsed.
I had massive PE last year and was given clot buster in A & E department in hospital. There is a time limit involved in giving drug, so not used as a general treatment for clots, only life threatening situations. I was on Heparin drip for four days, Warfarin injections for two days and then switched to Rivaroxaban tablets for life. PE damaged my heart so I also take Bisoprolol and Amlodipine and am in Atrial Fibrillation most of the time. There is a new "normal" following a PE and it varies from person to person. Some will go on to climb mountains and will be fit and active, but others of us will struggle to climb stairs and have to adapt to what is now. Good luck on your journey.
I ad one a few years ago now o Warfarin for life with regular blood checks
Good luck to all of us
