When I do my lung clearance for Bronchiectasis, it's only after about 30 to 45 minutes that the real work begins: that is a tickling sensation in the left lung which tells me something is moving, and it is accompanied by some wheezing.

Anyone else experience this long delay?

Are you using any nebulisers like saline? Are you using salbutamol prior to clearance to open the airways and aid getting it up? When well, my daughter clears some with her physio and nebuliser routine, but the bulk actually tends to spontaneously come up in the hour or so after she’s finished rather than as she’s doing it. This is recognised as being normal for her, but if it’s taking you that long to even really get anything moving at all, it sounds to me like the issue could potentially be your sputum being too thick and sticky to readily clear. What type of chest clearance do you do? Physio is very much horses for courses, so a change of technique could also be worth considering.

Salbutamol doesn't help. I use a saline nebulizer.

I seem to clear all day long, it drives me potty. I think mine is more of a problem because of my sinus's rather than just bronchiectasis, although the acapella does help at times x

I feel for you. Apart from my 2 x 1 hour sessions, I seem to clear every time I move, even when I am sitting down sometimes.

I find if I do clearance after exercise the good stuff starts to come up after about ten minutes and I can definitely feel a change so I usually do it for twenty minutes each lung. At other times when I do ten minutes either side not a lot shifts though my lungs will keep clearing for a while afterward. Can't imagine doing it for even longer - feel for you. How many times do you clear per day?

Brochiectasis. I used to clear for 3 x 45 sessions, but now after 6 Carbocisteinne tablets a day and a nebulizer I only do 2 x 45 minute sessions which is an improvement. I also use a one rubber strand chest expander and that helps.

Thanks for your reply.
