Operation Moonshot proposals are scientifically unsound, experts argue.

The idea of Moonshot is to frequently use new point-of-care tests across the whole population to detect asymptomatic disease. The Moonshot proposals are based on a computer model and not a real study. Whilst it has been reported that the model shows that “less accurate” tests are suitable for use in mass screening, this is not true. This publication points out that the model used assumes that tests used in Moonshot are very accurate at detecting only those who have infectious Covid-19, and are thus better than PCR.

Such tests do not yet exist, and experts argue that identifying the truly infectious and therefore those who must isolate, is not straightforward. As we have no gold standard way of telling infectious from non-infectious Covid-19, currently it is not even possible to see how well any new tests works at identifying infectious Covid-19.

Why is this of no surprise with "Operation Moonshot" coming from someone without scientific or medical knowledge and qualifications. Definitely not following the science. May well have kissed the Blarney Stone though!

I just knew there would be a multitude of problems for some folk and then to get advice and get your phone up and running the App, well it looks like bringing out the Armed Forces to help with the very long queues of people like yourself, get the damn App to work, lol 😂😂😂.

Can it get any worse and who got a brownie point for naming it "operation Moonshot"? It should've been more along the lines of "App1" then it allows for scope when it gets, or rather doesn't ,get going, glitches all sorted by "App54" etc, etc!!! Excuse my sad, gloomy sense of humour. Hope you have a good day. 🐿🌈

Hi 2greys, if the government gave a fraction of £100 billion they said they’d throw at Operation Moonshine to local authorities, they could all do a much better job of Track and Trace, than the outsourced total shambles run by Dido Harding and Serco.

But I suspect this was just another Johnson brain fart idea, to make it look like he was actually doing something and for headlines in the complicit press!

It was never a realistic process anyway. Firstly the test is not reliable enough . The track and trace system is in a chaotic state. The shear logistics of sending out roughly 880,000 tests a day, every day for up to 10 weeks in my opinion would quickly fail. Boris may dream but I believe this would soon be a nightmare of Trump proportions. Any credibility that Boris still as would be gone very quickly. Given the anger of the population it would be political suicide.

I assume everyone is aware that these new Moonshot tests will not be free! That’s what Dido said and can only assume that she knows?
