COPD or Bronchiectasis Card?

stillmovin profile image
28 Replies

Hi there. Perhaps I haven’t got the correct term for these cards but I am hoping to find out where I could get cards to carry around with me to notify people that I have a lung condition or more specifically, Bronchiectasis?

Does the British Lung Foundation issue these, or any other lung association within the UK?

Thanks for any information.

I haven’t seen a card as such, but the BLF and asthma U.K. have a badge you can download the says you have a breathing difficulty, but does not name the condition.

My local authority also has a downloadable badge. Maybe yours does too.

Thanks for the rapid reply! Ok the badges may be what I can use. I will enquire. Would like something like a card to carry around that’s not huge.

I have contacted the British Lung Foundation and a very helpful person there has directed me to a government site where you can download ´Please Give me my Space’ badges or phone images to show.

wxw.gov.uk/government/publications

There are also wristbands to purchase from the BLF shop with COPD Alert on them.

Hope this helps others.

Thanks to BLF Helpline today.

Hi stillmovin, there should be something laminated that people could purchase, a bit like a bus pass. Conditions could be listed for each individual.

How are you keeping? Good to see you. Stay safe. Xxxxx

Thanks. I’m not too bad. Was thinking about the list of conditions I’ve accumulated over the past years as I seem to have joined 4 other forums on Health Unlocked !!! Oh dear! Talk about a walking miracle!

Hope you are well x

That seems to be how it goes sometimes though. Hope you intended to join the other groups unlike the obesity forum. Lol.

Pete and I are doing well thank you. Take care xxxx

I’m not sure if you were meaning like this but these are quite useful if you can’t wear a face mask. They are 50p&about £3p&p

I wasn’t thinking of this but now I see it is an excellent idea and many thanks for sharing it. It will be very useful for a lot of people.

Your welcome! Annoyingly though the actual lanyard was out of stock when I ordered but I got a card. I’ve seen quite a few people wearing them.

I didn’t know this existed before. It would certainly help a lot of those with conditions such as Ehlers Danlos ( I have that too) and mental health conditions too.

My sister who’s a nurse told me about it. It is very useful. To be honest, I prefer to wear a mask...makes me feel safer even though they’re supposed to be to protect others. But it’s good to have if I can breathe and need a break

If I can’t breathe! Lol 😂

Hi Stillmovin, I have already bought mine and everyone seems to accept it, so far no-one has challenged me about not wearing a mask so I recommend them. I bought the hidden disability badge, the exempt from wearing a mask badge, the lanyard and the perspex cover all for £6.50. Take care Maximonkey

I wanted to ask the same thing. I have a driving test next week and I don’t want to wear the mask as I suffocate wearing it. Any idea if wearing a badge would be enough?

If you have a disability that means you just can’t wear a mask, I would imagine you can explain that to the instructor or examiner that is scheduled to be sitting in the car next to you. I feel that the masks are to protect others that we are near and that is why it’s important to be considerate. This virus is spreading and will be here a while. I feel so uncomfortable being near people not wearing a mask. You would really need to check it out first with the driving school rather than just show up with a badge on the day.

Thank you for explaining. Yes that makes sense. I’ve bronchiolitis.

Hello everyone,

My GP has, at my request, prepared a note to say that I have PF and can't wear a mask properly. This note I carry with me at all times. I do, however, wear it over my mouth to enable me to breathe. I want to show that I am complying as best I can with the orders. Here in Melbourne we get a hefty fine for non-compliance. As others on this forums have suggested, download PF data and carry it with you. I also wear a dog tag with my various diseases engraved on the back and a medical alert insignia on the front. This can be purchased on line from many medical websites.

I am sort of steering the thread back towards my original post as I think people may have understood that I am searching for cards or badges to show that I CANNOT wear a mask due to a hidden disability. That’s not the case. I will most certainly be wearing a mask as I think they are becoming more important as this virus progresses and mutates. It is to protect each other. Those near us when we are out and about.

The info I have picked up here from everyone is great. Lots of us will benefit from it - those who really need others to be wearing masks and keeping a good distance from them ( like me) and those who cannot wear a mask due to hidden disability, and need others not to reprimand them when they are in shops, etc.

Everyone has been so helpful. Thank you.
