Hello, I am so sorry you have so much going on. I have severe asthma and am also looking for something to reduce inflammation. I hate to use steroids but have to very frequently for coughing and wheezing. I have read that Vitamin D is good for the respiratory system.

I am following your post so that I can see everyone's response. This is a great site with individuals who know all the ins and outs of respiratory disorders.

Prayers, kdr

Hi All, after my last COPD/emphysema exacerbation whereby I discovered I had become allergic to clarithomycine (very scary) I thought I'd best try and put more effort into avoiding getting ill in the first place. After doing research to find natural antibiotics and anti inflammatory I have been using the following.

1) 1 tablespoon of Organic Apple cider vinegar, 2 tbsp raw organic honey, 1/4 teaspoon of cayenne pepper in a cup of boiling water-cooled, first thing in the morning. Honey is a natural anti biotic, and cayenne is a herb which improves blood circulation and breathing.

2) Vitamin C and Zinc supplement. Vit C to build up immune system and Zinc is something most COPD sufferers are short of apparently.

3) Olive leaf extract in capsule form. Olive leaf has been found to be the best alternative medicine for the treatment of COPD apparently. Helps in reducing inflamation and in stopping COPD related infections, it is antibacterial, antiviral and anti inflamtory.

4) and as a back up if I do begin a cold I will take Echinacea but so far I haven't needed to take it.

The morning drink is far nicer than it sounds (I really enjoy it) and it's effect can be felt as you are drinking it (Breathing becomes easier). It also has been settling my stomach which I suffer with gherd and constipation both of which have disappeared.

Apparently you shouldn't take a larger dose than 500mg of vit c as it affects your urine (the acid effect) mine are 400mgs.

And the olive leaf extract seems to be as wonderful as olive oil.....a Mediterranean super food.

So far so good I'm hoping to get through the winter and also avoid not only the infections but also pharmaceutical drugs. Fingers crossed!

I hope this Helps!

A couple of simple things for chest problems are ginger, garlic, honey. Honey can be used in tea instead of sugar. Ginger can be added to food so can garlic. Blackcurrant juice or the fruit also. Exercise helps to improve lung function too. BLF has many leaflets about exercise plus a CD. So might be worth a call to get some.

Hi, you may well benefit from N-Acetyl Cysteine (NAC).

Here is a link that gives some information and you can also Google NAC tablets for its health benefits. 1 x 600mg capsules twice a day could make a positive difference for you. I buy mine off Ebay.
