Struggling to breath with high humidity

Has anyone bought a dehumidifier for the house and do they help, we have fans blowing but hubby still struggling, i know it must be a problem for people with lung disease , i dont have health issues but i find it draining so can't imagine how you feel, we just have to keep trying to find solutions as these problems arise i know we all love a bit of sunshine but we are not used this heat .

Hi, sorry I really don't know about using a dehumidifier for hot humidity only that its good for reducing moisture in the air where there's damp in winter for this they work extremely well. I have a small white Hysure dehumidifier for the winter as I live in an old house and am allergic to mould.

Your husband could try putting his face closer to the fan so the draught is directed straight to his face. Worth a try 1st because it would cost nothing. Years ago on my NHS Pulmonary Rehabilitation course I was taught that the above was great for when you're SOB. I did try it once for a 3 year old going in to an asthma attack & neither of us had a rescue inhaler . I grabbed an Evening Standard and madly fanned her face with it, it absolutely worked brilliantly. I was told something about the facial nerves having a connection with the airways, can't remember more. Many people who suffer SOB travel with small handheld fan for such emergencies.

I was given a hand fan which helps with my breathing. Works well.

My granddaughter was given a number of gifts by her team when she was transferring to another team. Included was a gadget that looks like headphones but instead of wearing it over your head you put it around your neck and the two ends have fans that you can direct towards your face. Sorry that I do not know the correct title of the gadget.

If you have a picnic ice block (the blu ones) already frozen in the freezer put this in front of the fan to cool the air further, failing that you could part fill 2/ 3rds with water in a 500ml plastic bottle, freeze and use that as an alternative to picnic blue ice block.

Some times a spray of water and a hand held fan in from of the face can help breathing a little. Basically he need to cool the air down. It will be easier tomorrow.

a small air conditioning unit would also work to help with this.

I like the idea of an ice block in front of the fan....hadn’t thought of that, I’ll try it!

I have not been enjoying the high humidity either, I have a fan on me all the time when it is hot and it does seem to help.

Hi I have a dehumidifier which helps a great deal when it’s so humid, the only problem is it lets out warm air when it’s in use. I haven’t had it on while the temperatures Have been so high. It is great for the humidity when it’s a bit cooler. Hope this helps Barbs x
