Helicopter ride

Just wondering if it is safe to go on a helicopter ride with severe Emphysema as my friend has asked me to go with her. Always wanted to unsure of the altitude side of it?

Given that helicopters normaly fly at under 10,000 ft i imagine it's not a problem.mind you if it is flying at anything like that hieght i would worry more about the pilot than oxygen requirements,enjoy your flight it will be fun.

Haha something I have always wanted to do never got round to it as holidays are off the agenda at the mo I will settle for a quick ride pardon the pun.

My wife had severe lung problems. She had bronchiactasis. But she used to travel.

On the flights, and in the airports, she used a portable oxygen concentrator.

We took my mother to the States once and did the helicopter ride over the canyon. I have bronchiectasis and she had angina. We were both ok.

Sounds like fun thing to do - maybe the helicopter company can advise about altitude but I don't think they go that high. X

Possibly the only thing that could be a problem would be the weather. if too damp, windy, cold etc. Take warm jacket with you and take ventolin 20 mins before the flight may well make things much easier.

Well, my mother at 85 with multiple health issues went on a helicopter round Monaco

Thoroughly enjoyed herself as you will.

I have COPD Emphysema 22% projected lung capacity and my consultant advised me to cancel a coach trip up the Alps due to the altitude of 7000 metre above sea level. I would get medical advise.

If you don’t use oxygen whilst travelling in an aeroplane you’ll be fine. Enjoy your trip. Joy x.
