Tens of thousands of people will need to be recalled to hospital after a serious Covid-19 infection to check if they have been left with permanent lung damage, doctors have told the BBC.
Experts are concerned a significant proportion could be left with lung scarring, known as pulmonary fibrosis.
The condition is irreversible and symptoms can include severe shortness of breath, coughing and fatigue.
Oh my God this is awful. Surely finding a vaccine should be linked into positive research that is looking at treatment now for lung disease. As this will be a complete drain on the NHS resources. This is not ending anytime soon.
I hope this not to be the case with you. 2grey surely the need to be looking properly now at lung research and not just the virus or is this just me. Good luck
All I can say is that this virus has made researchers look at the lungs a lot more closely than they ever have before. Obviously their focus has been on Coronavirus presently, once there is a vaccine hopefully they will apply what they have learnt to other lung diseases.
Yes I have big time lung problems.now I had Tb as child again in Africa. I been the locked down alone . Ok also worst hay fever ever . Streaming anybody got any ideas ? My carer young gall also sufferers horrid hay fever poor babes with mask. Just can’t do . I don’t mind . She will not give me anything . On pluss point . Interesting my doc friends in Africa . Although I take meds. .because I had phnomia air born there malleria . Still here to tell tale . But last year I did end up on the ventilator.9 days um . Left me very mest up mentally. Which was anyway . But now the trials I put my self on here. . Now cancelled. Ok I understand am 70 this year. Had a crazy but productive life . It’s pain I live in difficult.
However, I do think this bbc article is misleading. It needs to be more speculative rather than assuming Covid Fibrotic changes are the same as pulmonary fibrosis.
