Dentist PPE Levy

Anyone else notified by their dentist of a £35 PPE levy fee for future treatments. Not exactly small change and think this will lead to people only going to dentist as a last resort!

It's already so expensive to go to the dreaded dentist 😬

What scares me about those places is the cost!

That is one way the dentist will get the message if people phone up and delay their check up appointments.

I've not heard anything from my dentist possible not all dentist will charge same amount or charge at all.

Sadly in my area most dental surgeries are now owned by one company, so no real choice!

Surely Dentists should be wearing masks already as part of their normal PPE. Mine does. So why are they charging? Is it provide PPE for the patients?

in reply to MissKota

No it's for the additional PPE equipment and the cost of decontaminating the room after each patient. As you say you would have expected a high degree of cleanliness before the virus ever arrived. I assume this charge will also apply when you visit the dental hygienist as well.

Outrageous! Heard of someone paying £7…They know people are stuck between a rock & a hard place. So not fair!

Yes, my dentist has notified me of this also. Hopefully I will not need to go there before my next inspection which will be October. Pray things will have improved by then otherwise there is no option to but to pay really.

Yep my dentist says £7 to cover cost of extra ppe and £35 if they have to use tools 😱. I hope to stay away for awhile.

I don't go near those places unless I'm really desperate myself.

Daylight robbery. I paid £62 plus in February for a filling. 2 weeks into lockdown the filling fell out and I have spent the last 12 weeks or so eating on the other side of my mouth - quite a juggling trick together with recent growing "nerve pain" from the tooth. As a shielder I have had to "put up with it"

My dental practice tells me that now they are open no one will be allowed to use the loo in the surgery (apart from staff)- they are NOT doing any fillings or extractions BUT the dentist will have a look and probably refer me to somewhere else - apart from charging me of course for an examination which is probably £25 or so.

I am 74 and not very mobile due to worsening sciatica, a hip problem and scoliosis and I really feel embarrassed when asked at the reception if I pay for my treatment. The answer is a loud and resounding "YES I DO" - especially when asked in a packed surgery of mostly able bodied, cans of lager in the shopping bag people who I discover "DO NOT"

Would not expect to pay the £25 fee for work they carried out in Feb, surely there must be a guarantee period!

There is a guarantee period I think 6 months but as he will refer me for the necessary work - probably hospital somewhere (for re-fill or extraction) then I will probably have to pay for the examination.

Money for old rope if you ask me
