Masks & glasses

Is anyone finding they are getting short of breath whilst wearing a mask? I was fine at first, but after about 10 mins my breathing became a little laboured, was glad to get home & take it off!! Also, my glasses steamed up. Thanks.

I find I have a job to breathe whilst wearing mask. Ok for a few minutes. I have tried various kinds. Find one that pulls up over face best so far. The VBIGER got off Amazon. Even so with coughing it does not help wearing g a mask

I wonder if a face visor would be better, or maybe not as effective

Morning Greyeyes made me chuckle the steamed up glasses I have tried 3 different types of masks each one seems to steam up my glasses I think in my case it's because I start to panic as I struggle to take in more air I can't get enough into my lungs through my nose so I'm like a goldfish lol if I take my glasses off I can't see a flipping thing ....

Morning, that made me chuckle!! I saw somewhere (but can’t remember where) that if you put washing up liquid on the lens they don’t steam up. Might be a problem if it rains 🤣 I too don’t breathe very well after about 10 mins, wondering if a face shield would be effective.

Those face shields look cumbersome to me should imagine they make glasses steam up too ..Fairy liquid on glasses not sure on either lol especially if it rains I read somewhere mentholated spirits works don't know if you wipe it on your lenses or drink it

Hi, Yes, I recently mentioned this on here that I was finding it difficult to breathe properly when wearing my mask. Also as I took in a deep breat, to compensate for this, the mask would blow off when I breathed out. It's now being suggested we wear triple thick masks now. My masks are only double thick so I'm not buying another one until more solid information becomes available.

If you find something that suits you could you please let us know on the forum. Thanks.

😊

Of course I will. Going to have to do a bit of research on this I think 🤔

I read somewhere if you cover bathroom mirror with shaving foam then rub off it stops misting up after a bath or shower. Don't know if it works but maybe worth a try on glasses?

I wore a 3M mask, used for DIY, in supermarket recently and had to pull it down as breathing was affected and felt as if would faint. I only pulled it up when queuing then taken off immediately when outside.

I’ll give it a go thanks, sounds like the masks are affecting everyone. Have to admit it’s putting me off going out.

I wear a face shield which is very comfortable that I often forget I have it on. I bought it in my local chemist who assured me it was safe. Carole 😷😘

I’m considering getting a shield, have emailed BLF to ask their advice.

I find if I tuck the top of my mask under my glasses it stops them from steaming up. If the mask is below them mine steam up as well, and it is more difficult to breath with a mask on, at least for me.

My glasses are quite narrow, someone suggested washing them in soapy water, am going to give it a try

Sure can't hurt to try.

Face masks with the metal nose clip pinched hard on the bridge of your nose will minimise the glasses fogging. Be careful of what you wipe on your glasses if they have any special coatings on such as anti reflection coatings. There can be a reaction. Toothpaste works but again - be aware that it is an abrasive substance.

I found the surgical mask difficult to breathe in, so have made some out of 100% cotton - lots of free patterns around, and these are much easier to breathe in. I used a pipe cleaner for the nose bridge.

Finally - glasses should be higher up your nose than the top of your mask - no overlap - that way no hot air escapes up the inside/outside of your glasses.

As current advice is for face coverings - these masks are ok and suitable for dr / hospital appointments too.
