'Virus drains no-deal Brexit medicines stockpiles'

The UK has been warned by the pharmaceutical industry that stockpiles of medical supplies have been "used up entirely" by the coronavirus pandemic.

A memo seen by the BBC advises the government to buy and store "critical" medicines to treat the virus. Drug makers fear stockpiles cannot feasibly be built back up again, if the UK should fail to strike a post-Brexit trade deal with the EU.

The government said "robust contingency plans are in place".

The spokesperson added: "We want a relationship with the EU which is based on friendly cooperation between sovereign equals and centred on free trade." However, firms fear disruption to global supply chains will seriously impact the NHS. The internal pharmaceutical industry memo, which was prepared for the government in May, warns that after the pandemic ends, there will be "less or zero product available in the market to allow for stockpiling a broad range of products" than there was in 2019, when stockpiling occurred in preparation for a possible no-deal Brexit.

Grocery availability worries me too, it’s not long since I spent days searching for delivery slots, and lots of items were out of stock. ......still are, flour for instance .

Covid, seasonal flu, Christmas, New Year, winter weather and the unmentionable ‘ B ‘ .

What a thought.

I wonder how seasonal vaccines will be administered in September/October

With regard to seasonal vaccines, I have been wondering that too.

I have my doubts. Sadly the main stream media have for many years reported the more sensational aspects of reports. Which as caused unnecessary fear among vulnerable people.

I think that the clues are, that this is a warning to the Gov. for the future:

"Drug makers fear stockpiles cannot feasibly be built back up again, if the UK should fail to strike a post-Brexit trade deal with the EU."

"The internal pharmaceutical industry memo, which was prepared for the government in May, warns that after the pandemic ends, there will be "less or zero product available in the market to allow for stockpiling a broad range of products" than there was in 2019, when stockpiling occurred in preparation for a possible no-deal Brexit."

There was a problem with getting certain medicines even before the pandemic and before Brexit carryings on. Could be one of those things we never really know the true answer to, although I did hear regarding one particular medicine wasn't being manufactured because they couldn't get one of the ingredients or enough of it, it was to do with a plant that usually grows all over but for some reason not so prolific last year or year before, probably can put that down to man's interference somewhere along the line.

Well I guess we are all just going to suck it and see as a friend of mine used to say.
