European Medicines Agency

Food for thought: Today EU countries vote on who gets to have the European Medicines Agency and Banking Authority, which the UK will lose post-#Brexit.

It will change things in terms of medical funding, research and exchanges.

Research funding following leaving has been a huge concern of mine from the start. We have some brilliant researchers but lack of funding will be, as you say 02, a catastrophe.

I'm not convinced much will change, in that regard. Marie Curie moved from Poland to Paris to work, Ernest Rutherford from New Zealand to Manchester, Rosalind Franklin to Paris, Jim Watson from the U.S. to Cambridge, Francis Crick, Cambridge to U.S., Einstein and Leo Szilard from Germany and Hungary respectively to U.S., the list is endless. The EUmatters not a jot!

Hi,

I agree with above people shouldn't read too much into this it's far more involved than that. Also don't think politics should be bought into this as it's very personal choice and this is a site for helping with health issues

in reply toAlexann

Hi

You are untitled to your opinion of course. I only commented on the medical research side of the institution, which, as far as I am concerned, is an important issue.

Actually I saw Amsterdam was a chosen destination yesterday. Life will tell..

Regards.

Scientific exchange of the best minds has gone on since at least The Enlightenment. Do you really believe "Big Pharma" will stop cherry-picking brains and research because of the EU. It's a bit bigger than the EU, I'm afraid. It's called $,SFr and shekels etc.

Thanks for the compliment 😃

no I don’t actually. Just taking one problem at a time. We’ll leave to that I think..

BSA-3 i do not think it does your cause good to be rude to people.if you have a statement to make and disagree with people then that is fine but to be rude about other peoples comments is hardly likely to endear people to your cause..............regards skis

Hi, firstly, I have no cause of any kind. Secondly, my choice of words may have been a tad strong due to exasperation. (And,not a little, pain.) I had not and have not any intention of causing offence. I would've hoped that you could've taken it in the same spirit as Happylondon. However, surely we digress? This is a medical forum, as mentioned before.

in reply toBSA-3

Actually I am on the same wave length as Skischool. MrsMummy moderates the forum and she obviously thought I had made a relevant comment at the time if not my topic would have been removed.

Couldn`t agree more skischool . My lungs may be less than perfect but my brain`s still working and as we`re all adults on here it`s quite right that we should discuss anything that affects us. No-one expects us to descend to playground political behaviour- I hope. Sheila x

Definitely. I am only thinking in terms of health issues, a comfortable life for all lung sufferers and other patients who wish that one finds a cure for their ills.

It’s a disaster in my opinion, to lose all that expertise, especially for those of us who’re desperately awaiting new drugs to control our conditions. Apart from the implications for research, a new licensing & approval agency for the UK needs to be up & running by Mar 2019. New drugs take long enough to get to market as it is.

Let's see how much of Goves millions are made available to the failing NHS in tomorrows budget, but don't hold your breath, if you've got any.

Hi

It's Phillip Hammond who is chancellor , not M Gove.

in reply toAlexann

He’s referring to the £millions promised by Mr Gove to the NHS, in the Leave campaign
