Quite Confused

Last week, I was told that I was at moderate risk from Covid as I had not had enough steroids, during the past year. Today, I received the letter that puts me at extreme risk. Luckily, I didn't venture out, as I was frightened there were too many people around, but I have told all these other people who have rung me, that I'm only moderate, now.

Never mind, as there are a lot of people that do need a lot more help than I do and I would hate them not to get it!

Yes, a bit confusing.

I bet you felt relieved. It's not nice to think you're so vulnerable, even if it's true.

Thanks for replying and take care.

I would double check with your doctor's as that is how I find out about my miscommunication

Every one is high risk for Covid-19

Whether you have mild, moderate or severe lung damage.

Those with very severe lung damage are likely to be at extremely high risk for survival of Covid19

I am not classed high risk. I am classed medium risk as I have asthma. I got informed by a nurse in my group practice as I have 4 under one name

Yes, Bkin,

I am severe/very severe, so was a bit surprised when the nurse told me I was at moderate risk. The letter, I received was from the Dr., so I will go on her guidance. The nurse seemed to think as I had not had many steroids, I wouldn't be so vulnerable, but the Dr. is aware that I have avoided steroids, as I have seen the consequences of taking very large doses. I save them for really desperate situations, when nothing else works!

Exactly - it's our chance of survival which varies.

How worrying for you,I do hope that you get it sorted.

It's very unsettling to have apparently conflicting advice, stay well.

My GP told me that the government goes through our health data looking for medications in order to assess our level of risk. I am severe, going towards stage 4 and when I become unwell I deteriorate unusually fast accordingly to my respiratory nurse. But because I have been very well for nearly for 23 months now I have not had to take prednisolone at all during this time, merely the steroid component in my inhaler, so perhaps this is why I havent had the government at risk letter. I have had a letter from my GP, categorising me at high risk though (high risk meaning whether I would survive if I caught the virus).

How we are categorised seems very arbitrary and my view would be to assume you are at high risk whether you are or not, and to act accordingly.

Thank you O2 for your response.

I am continuing to self shield and am now quite interested to see if I protect myself from other infections, as well as Covid19.

Not an experiment I would have chosen, by choice, but interesting in its own way.

Take care
