Well done Whit. You are now in a select group. No point in muckin' about with mild or moderate, come on in with the big boys. I hope the rest of the day is better for you mate.

Bobby

Welcome to the club Whit! Just take each day as it comes, you are still you,& can pretty much carry on as before, don't let numbers rule you, keep up exercising,& eating healthily, get things done on the good days,& have a rest on the not so good! Tomorrow's another day,Cheers Wendells xx

Morning Whit, My husband was also promoted about two years ago! To be honest I am not sure it made any difference to how he was. He still works full time, we still have a great quality of life (A bit slower than others!!) - so my advise would be don't worry about the labels (they just help the medics) - get on and live your life!! Good Luck TAD xxx

I too find I am in the 'select group' but I too wish I had not yet been 'promoted' but welcome to our group Whit.

Actually for me the first time I was tested & they found out I had COPD as well as Bronch, I went straight in to the severe ranking

I know its different for everyone, but for those who 'went through the ranks' so to speak..that is they knew when they were mild, and then moderate, and then severe, can they say how long they estimate they were in each stage?

Many thanks Sohara

Hi Sohara. A very interesting point you raise about times between stages of COPD.As you rightly say everyone is different,I was diagnosed with mild emphysema the summer of 2006 and advised to join rehab almost straight away, very good too.I was o.k for about 3 years but had some trouble with stairs and hills,as you know this illness has habit of sneaking up on you if you are not vigilant and it caught me out because of my own stupidity.Because I had a good heart, good blood pressure and no weight problem and was relatively fit I started exercising less and doing less of everything and by 2012 I was. Really struggling and my lung function had dropped to 23 and I realised I was on the dreaded downward spiral which they warned us about on the rehab course so I should have known better. Then in March 2013 I fell and punctured a lung and had A pneumothorax just in time apparently they told afterwards I was minutes away from meeting the man with the big scythe. All through 2013 I had one infection after another and March 2014 I saw my consultant yesterday, thinks I've been carrying this bug for ages, they think they have identified the bug and found AB which rapid response nurses will inject me twice a day 3 days a week for 2 weeks so hopefully will start to fix it.So to answer your question i am now severe class. So 06. Mild. 011 mod.013 severe.Sorry for long reply.Bengunn.xxx.

Thanks bengunn for such a detailed response. What's amazing on this thread is how many of us got the severe COPD as our very first diagnosis

At least we now have found this site so hopefully we will now be able to slow our decline.
