Just received a lovely surprise - emergency food package c/o Govt. Got white loaf of bread,Kelloggs rice krispies, 8 apples,5 satsumas, bag carrots, bag potatoes, Napolina spaghetti, 5 200ml semi skimmed milk, 1 250gr. Tulsa brown basmati quick cook rice, plastic bag with various individual packs of biscuits, breakfast tea bags, individual Nescafe coffee sachets ,2 guest soaps, tin tuna,2 little hand sanitizer. Then on to tins - large fruit cocktail, large rich & rustic tomato sauce, large mushy peas, 2 Heinz baked beans, 4 Heinz tomato soup.1 corned beef & last 2 toilet rolls. So surprised to get that amount. Sorry it's so long but thought some of you might like to know if you signed up for it - this is for a single person. Take care & keep safe Chris

That’s good news Ilovebunnies. I didn’t think there would be so much in it. Milk is indeed a blessing. We are rationing ours at the minute.

Bring back the milkman!

Very helpful to know what is in it. What my wife and I need is the bread/fruit/veg/sanitiser. We have a lovely local butcher who can deliver meat and we have enough tins at present so will see if any of our local food banks/volunteer bodies can make use of the stuff we don;t need when a parcel arrives. Guess this is the problem for Government at present, they need to keep contents of food parcels identical to make things simple and quick but means we will get some things we need and some we don;t

You may be lucky & get extra things that would suit a couple , you should at least get double of what I got. The chap rang my bell & left it by my front door & stood at bottom of path by road & was masked up . Take care & stay safe. Chris

That’s great, did you have to apply for it ? Or does anyone on the very vulnerable list get it automatically ? X

I used the link yesterday but one of the questions was “Do you have friends or family who can shop for you?”

As I have neighbours ( no family) who have offered to shop for me I ticked yes knowing that would be the end of that but I just felt the neediest people are those living on their own and those who do not have anyone to shop for them and these should be prioritised.

Keep well 😆

Thats great news . I haven't eaten rice crispies in years :-) I think I would be loathe to use the milk up on cereal and would use it for much needed hot drinks. Was there any butter or spread for the bread ?

Did the letter indicate how long this food will have to last you ?

Did you have any letter to say the parcel was coming ?

I wonder if all boxes will be the same in every area,Maybe others will post their box contents too.I hope everyone who are entitled do get theirs eventually and there is just a hiccup in roll out. xx

PS apologies for all the questions.

Letter states it will last 1 week, there was no spread of any kind that I could see in the box though I had searched on EBay & Amazon & could get 100 little pots (1 serving) of butter for around £10. It also states that the boxes will be identical - dont know if that means the whole of England or just where I am. Hope this helps Chris

Looks like it's going to take a lot of imagination to make 7 meals out of that !! Ok if you can lift pans to boil pasta and rice :-( and like to eat it boiled on its own :-( Shame they expect you to eat dry bread.I suppose the bag of carrots is handy if you have a pet rabbit :-) 200ml of milk is less than half a pint for a whole week ?? Oh well, beggars can't be choosers xx

Sorry didn't put milk down right - got 5×200ml so if my maths & brain still work it = 1 litre. 2kg of potatoes & 1kg of carrots, god knows what they expect 1 person to do with all that! My cousin & I have been coming up with ideas to use them- potato, carrot , onion & celery (still have a few left) soup, add tin of corned beef & make corned beef hash ( potatoes, carrot & frozen mixed veg),I can pretend am bunny rabbit & nibble raw carrots (going back to my childhood). Rice again can add grated carrots & mixed veg from freezer, tin of tuna, again mashed potatoes on top & add some carrots, make tuna mayonnaise, add mashed potatoes, maybe some carrots or onion or mixed veg & make tuna patties or fish cakes. Any more ideas are welcome. Also have minced beef in freezer & belly pork & chicken thighs so can certainly not be bored with meals.

Did you have a letter to say you were in the extremely vulnerable group and to self isolate for 12 weeks before the parcel arrived ?

Last question I promise :-) xx
