Self isolation,

People with underlying health conditions will have letters asking them to stop in for about 12 weeks, this i agree with but if one can go where there are no other people i think that may be fine, people just dont get the message or dont want to get the message, it has always been the elderly and people with bad health are the most in danger and i do think younger people are under the impression it will not get at them, but, 37 people died in England and the ages were between 18 and 102 so people better start to take it seriously, on a brighter note people who have underlying health conditions are getting over it, stay safe and well to all.

There were 2 young guys with Cystic Fibrosis who contracted the virus and are recovering. Neither needed ventilation but both were in hospital. I’ll see if I can find the articles.

I’m amazed at people’s arrogance and ignorance. Unbelievable! Stay safe. Xxxxx

Stay safe also and now that an 18 year old has sadly died, maybe people may finally get the message we are all in danger. Take care. Lynn

The official letters are for the ones with the worse underlying conditions I believe (at this point). It is a worrying time, not helped by the ones that are still not following social distancing.

Interview on radio today, from a gent in Scotland, worried that people are escaping the cities and going to caravan parks, cottages etc in the country. Firstly this can mean the illness can get to areas that were free, who do not have easy to reach hospitals which may have only small special isolation areas/equipment. Also these rural areas are where our food is produced, surely we should be caring for our farming communities by staying away?

It's Social Shielding not to be confused with Social Distancing.

Yes I find people aren't understanding the difference. x

Trouble is those who are going out don't seem to understand what social distancing means ........2 metres or 6 foot apart.

Those crowds shown on the tv were certainly not practicing that, so we all suffer. Having to shut down open spaces because of over, uncaring use.

Germany and France are formally making people keep to the rules to protect everyone.

A poor young NHS nurse is fighting for her life , it's not just the old who are vulnerable.

How many of us here will be shut in for three months, those who are allowed their freedom should show more responsibility .

Wow happyJo,

i have had exactly the same scenario and have ended a 28year old friendship, where

My issue was over gross stockpiling and similar selfish behaviour to what you experienced.

Now i am incarcarated i am worried about getting medication, who will help, probably no one, similarly with food. I live alone and am having to think of contingency plans, little coming to mind as yet, but you really find out who is your friend, and i have been shocked.

Take care, Sops

I don’t know where you live but here in Southampton an amazing voluntary networking has developed in about 10 days. Every ward has a whatsapp group where offers from volunteers are matched with requests for support which could be shopping, walking the dog, picking up meds, keeping company by phone, etc. Every home has been leafleted with a hotline number to call if you need help. I think these may get taken over by local councils but meanwhile are doing a great job. Have a google for coronavirus mutual aid and your area name to see if there is one near you.

hi Murray58;

thats a great help thank you. I live in Oxford which has been badly hit, as your area, so some help would be so much appreciated. Have e mailed my surgery but no reply as yet. A Neighbour has just popped over ( i dont really know them) to say i can join their veg order, how kind, am over the moon. Wil attempt to down load the app you mentioned, and try to look for support. Thsnk you so much, these messages mean a lot to us all

Take care Sops.

Funny how some of us are having these problems with friends. I had the same with one of my friends when she said she was going to her mums for mothers day as it would be quite a family gathering and must get some flowers and cake ?? Go figure, dont think she liked what I had to say. I too live alone and am having to go shopping once per week as I cant get a slot x

Sops in reply toIzb1

No i have tried to get a slot to no avail. Who has them all ?.

I am a complete idiot when it comes to technology, and my son bought me an i pad years ago which i can do emails and kindles on, but yesterday he put me on facetime and i saw his family st home. It sounds mad but i was over the moon. Then my dsughter who is at home recovering from a serious operation, sent me a virtual mothers day card, magic! I was not alone albeit different, and it was a Mothers Day to remember.

I am grateful for small mercies these days, take care, Sops

Very true. Trying to explain facts to some is futile. It’s analogous to trying to save a marriage one fully knows is doomed! An abusive relationship, etc...people just keep running back. Point is; you can frustrate yourself into a heart attack trying to get through to some people. People have the most uncanny ability to convince themselves the moon is indeed made of cheese!

Well put HappyJo. People haven’t stopped having accidents, heart attacked and strokes because of Covid19.

SOps - they did say there would be help for individuals - hopefully you can access this. I do hope that I will be allowed down at my field. It’s just a short journey in the car and I won’t see anyone. These are difficult unprecedented times. Love to you all x

I don’t like the thought of having troops on the streets but due to people’s arrogance and stupidity I can see it happening.

lynisa48 profile image

Something shown on to yesterday really summed up how stupid some people are the interviewer was talking to a woman about people coming to her seaside town and walking around in large groups she said how terrible it was and people should self isolate and they go out stay six feet apart and there she was sitting on a wooden bench with her elderly parents sat close together does she think if your related you can't give it to each other and that it's only strangers that spread it, this is what we are up against Boris stop wafferling say it straight you can catch this virus from anyone stay at home keep six feet away from anyone in your home if you can but avoid close contact if you have to go out again six feet apart this needs to be inforced sooner rather than later and I can't understand why all people with lung problems are not on the at risk list as this virus attacks the respiratory system right now going back in my box lol

Auntypooh profile image
Auntypooh

Just to say that I have had my notification about staying put for 12 weeks. I didn't get a letter, mine came by text which is how my GP practice communicates with me. However I had already had notice from my respiratory nurse a couple of weeks ago. Common sense really. Stay well and safe. Sue
