Fewer than one in five people request a Covid-19 test if they have symptoms, while the number who follow full self-isolation rules is low, a large study of the test-and-trace system has found.
The report, published in the British Medical Journal, also found only half of people knew the main Covid symptoms.
Refusing to self-isolate when told to is now illegal in England, with fines of up to £10,000. Anyone who tests positive for Covid-19, which was made into law 29th Sept 2020.
No test = avoid the fine. How short sighted was that? Plus the lack of adequate financial support. This must have contributed to the latest wave and further avoidable deaths.
I do wonder how many of those not following self isolation rules after a positive test can't afford to do so. This has been muted as a reason in my area where covid infection rates have been very high but it is an area with a lot of deprivation.
What really baffles me is how on earth it is acceptable for 'career politicians' who have no medical experience or medical qualifications to be in charge of making these decisions. Yes they have advisors, but ignore them. I hope that any public enquiry into the handling of this Pandemic also takes these issues into account as well.
