I am trying to stay home but feel I can't as have to go out and hunt for food items to replenish our food cupboard. I have tried to book a delivery on line but all our main supermarkets - Tesco, Morrisons and Sainsbury's - have no dates available. They just tell you to come back another day. I have a 90 year old husband and an adult son on the autistic spectrum so they are not able to share the burden with me. Anyway, they should be staying at home too. Are any of you in a similar position and how are you coping with it? I am in my 70s and have bronchiectasis.

Food shopping worry
Shopping is so so difficult at the moment, Spanielblue. I feel for you. I’ve got one home delivery booked but I don’t think I’ll get another slot for weeks.
Some supermarkets are letting elderly/infirm enter alone for the first hour each day, but press reports show very crowded stores.
I did read that Morrison’s plan to give priority to elderly and infirm for home delivery, but don’t know how that will work yet. Some of the small shops near me are now offering delivery, so maybe try your local shops? There are also good neighbour schemes in many places, maybe phone your local council?
Hope this all settles down soon somehow. Good luck!
We already booked slots in advance up until April 10th, as we could see the way things were headed. But we also have back up with 2 lovely neighbours prepared to help out if need be. As long as you keep a safe distance (whatever that is) you should be reasonably safe. The lack of food availability should be a national shame, but I doubt all those folk who selfishly hoarded food will be held to account.
Just found out that our local Iceland has stacked single toilet rolls in a basket by the door, with a sign saying "free, help yourself! Oh they will, they will.
Probably take the basket as well 🙄x
It’s dire! None of the supermarkets had any slots or click / collect availability up to April 10th & the government have no intention of making any kind of intervention apparently.
On BBC breakfast this morning, a critical care nurse in tears & clearly shattered found the shelves bare yesterday.
People hoping this brings the best out in society I think will wait a long time. What’s going on at the moment is gluttony at its absolute worst! 😡 I really am so mad I’m afraid.
These gluttons are probably shopping every day tey can. The are using credit cards to pay for the obscene amounts they are buying. Stop anyone with excessive amounts in their trolleys from using credit cards, insist the pay with debit cards. Chances are the wont have the cash available.
It’s a nightmare out there, like many I rely on internet grocery shopping I can’t physically get to the supermarket and get shopping home.
My usual delivery slots are all booked for weeks in advance, it’s the cat food I worry about. Thankfully I was taught to cook the old fashioned way and can make something out of nothing.

I have got two deliveries booked with tesco, the 9th and 14th April. Surprised to see no sugar! Only allowed three bananas! No paracetamol, no kleenex. Am lucky to have daughter in law next door and she is helpful.
Think Icelands gesture of free loo rolls may come unstuck, perhas just put a free one in each basket at the checkout!
Hi, there are a lot of mutual aid groups out there trying to help.
Here's a list on Google doc, hope this works, if not, where do you live?
Someone in my family (no health problems) has booked several slots weeks in advance so she’s ok thanks very much, but what about the rest of us?? She has at least offered to add shopping to her trolley for others in the family, for whom there are no available slots 🙄
My neighbour set up a Coronavirus support group on What’s app and lots of neighbours joined. People have offered to shop for those who can’t get out and to share online home deliveries. I haven’t used it yet but it’s a great comfort to know.
Hope you get sorted
Take care

Its very hard Spanielblue. I am 67 have bronchiectasis, rheumatoid arthritis etc and cant get a slot on any supermarket and just like everybody at the moment having to go out to shop. Tescos have an early slot for the elderly on Mon, Wed and Frid 9-10 which worked very well last week, they put up a barricade on one side for people to queue up and the other side open for the elderly, some were asked for driving licences. It looked like the shelves had been stocked so I managed to get fruit and veg along with most other things, they even had toilet rolls. Lets hope things settle down a bit and people start being sensible. I think it would be better if the supermarkets asked for your age when making the order so they could give priority to the over 60's and the people with lung problems. In the meantime coukd you ask neighbours for some help or family if you have any x
Your Tesco's sound better organised than ours. However, I haven't heard any reports yet about their priority scheme so it may have worked well. I know Sainsbury's early morning event for over 70s etc didn't work well at all. I am hoping that the online services will improve as time goes buy so we will be able to order. I haven't heard anything about online shopping being impossible being mentioned on the news yet. Just lots of depressing pictures of empty shelves. My two daughters have started to bring food items in for us so I am very thankful for their help. I am finding it very hard to give up my independence but it helps to know I am not alone. Thank you for replying
Can you check out if there are any local networks near you offering help? Our Asda delivery was cancelled but found that a local farm shop has a stall outside and is selling fruit and veg in small bags. We also have an egg farm who sell eggs via a vending machine. I think some of the supermarkets are going to offer priority to the old and vulnerable this week but I guess it will be as hard to police as the quiet hours in supermarkets. Our local network is called Nextdoor.co.uk but I don’t know if there’s communities all over on that. Good luck I hope you get sorted.
