I contracted flu in late January and was really poorly.A couple of doctor’s appointments showed low blood oxygen levels and a spirometery test was booked as a result of being an ex smoker,
The results showed moderate damage, however the nurse performing the test ordered a chest X-ray as I was still breathless from the flu.The results showed pneumonia. After a course of antibiotics Im much better. My question is how reliable will the spirometery test have been As it was carried out when Unknown to me I had pneumonia. The nurse said the results took me just into the moderate category and recommended nothing more than a repeat test next year.My blood oxygen has gone back to normal too.Im wondering if I should have the test repeated. As a frequent traveler ( not at the moment!) I realise I will have to declare this and I would like a more reliable diagnosis.Previous to being ill I had no symptoms of COPD and although not surprised with the diagnosis because of my smoking history I was surprised the results slipped in to the moderate category.
Thanks Everyone.

Hello, this happens to me, I had my second test last month and results were ok - 85%
My results in jan I thought I had moderate copd think they were tound 60% after bronchodilator (was poorly oct bad chest infection, then pleurisy december) I'd ask for a re test, i wasnt surprised because I was a smoker, however I was so upset and scared, and I just wasnt up for that spirometery in jan.
