Newbie and anxious

Hello everyone, I just joined your site and feel so relieved to have found it 😁 Been reading some of your posts and it's kind of helping I think. I've recently turned 50 and have been diagnosed with COPD for about a year. I am currently on a pulmonary rehab course which is helping me so much, in a practical way and helping me emotionally and mentally. I thought I was dealing and had come to terms with it but since the virus has hit i feel terrified. Really trying to stay calm and practical but so worried and fear my anxiety is getting to silly point. I really want to hide from the world but it isn't possible with so many commitments and responsibilities. Does anyone else feel the same or do I need to get a grip? So worried also about keeping my house germ free when I can't use bleach or disenfectant. I have young grandchildren that need to be here twice a week and a son that needs me so much at the moment due to personal issues he's experiencing. Trying to keep myself well for them but also hoping we all stay well for at least 3 weeks as my son is getting married then. So anxious at the moment. Thanks for listening (reading), sorry if I've rambled on a bit πŸ™ˆ xxx

Hello Aidirock, for what it is worth I must say you are just a learner with COPD. Many members of this site have had the disease for quite a few years, so you will have plenty of experienced people willing to help you. The improvement in the inhalers we use has been exceptional. Most areas run pulmonary rehabilitation courses, which explain how you can make your life easier, by giving hints on diet etc .

I used to have a pulmonary nurse, who came every month to check me out. She was able to issue me with prescriptions. One of the medications she gave me was roxythromycin. Roxithromycin is a semi-synthetic macrolide antibiotic. It is used to treat respiratory tract, urinary and soft tissue infections. I take one tablet daily and it seems to guard against the gremlins grandchildren produce and other I may come across, My doctor approves this.. I also have an emergency supply of prednisone and amoxicillin in case I have an exacerbation. If you look at the top of this page, you will see group who are willing to help us through our illness.

We get more support than most, so don't be afraid to ask for help.

Aww thank you so much ❀ I will ask at my next session regarding the roxythromycin. And will have a look at the top of this group. Thank you xxx

Hi I’m new to this site but just read your post about taking Roxythromicin every day - I am getting chest infections with only about a two week respite in between. I have Roxythromicin and Trisul antibiotics to take for the infection, usually about 2 - 3 weeks before I notice an improvement. Has it stopped you getting chest infections?

Thanks - it’s great to have other people who understand my condition.

Hi Adirock, what your going through is normal for newbies. Small changes and you'll find your life will go on more or less the same.

I'm not down-playing the seriousness of what we've got but your at the best place to find out working ways to carry on fairly easily.

No smoking!!!! Vital.

Avoiding heavy traffic as much as possible.

Simple breathing exercises.

Easy exercise.

Keep supple, stretching.

I'm sure your nurse will explain all this and you should follow what she suggests.

And now you've got the bonus of this site and all of us who have been through this. Lucky you eh!!

Any questions, any doubts, starting to panic.....pretty sure one of us can help.

Take care

Your not rambling you are just worried. I find going over things with anti bacterial wipes are good great on work tops etc. And as been told Milton's which i used when my kids were little. They now do one in a spray bottle. My mum got me one. She said shes only seen it at the big Tesco's. Anditsxgreat just spray over surfaces and apparently toucan eat your dinner off it. Lol. Dosent seem to leave to much of an odour. Not affecting chest so far.be good with the grandchildren.trusted branded with the kids.

Take each day one step at a time. Sit down when things get too much put some music on close your eyes and try to have a rest for a while.

Have you spoken to your gp about your anxiety he may be able to help.

We are all here if you need to ramble . . Please dont bottle things up I'm always here Take Care. X

Welcome to this Great Forum Hun. We are one Big Family and Help and inspire each other. You are still (I think) in your early stages of COPD, Like mentioned here many of us have ad this Disease For years and have Learned everything from each other with some help from Professionals (Joke). Your P Rehab is a Must, I'm waiting to go back for my 7th Course, I also go to Breathe Easy Exercise Classes. Due to this Virus, I am not going out at all, so I am doing my Exercises at Home. Be Vigilant Hun. PS: I don't use Bleach or Cleansing hard Sprays, this is not Good for Respiratory, I Use Antibac Wipes, much safer.

Enjoy the Forum, It has so much good advise and Humour. Love. C. XXX

Hi Adirock, welcome to our site. You certainly have a lot going on at home, no wonder you are anxious. Do try and enjoy your grandchildren and the wedding, this virus will come and go and hopefully we will all come through. Just keep washing your hands. I know the grandchildren are little bug machines but hopefully their germs are the usual ones you have some immunity to. As for the bleach issue, does it make you breathless, or do you just think you shouldn't be using it? I have Bronchiectasis and asthma and I still use bleach. Just turn away when you pour it. Take care, Maximonkey

Cheat feels tight and I cough quite a lot when using it. But after today's tips and advice I got cracking with bicarbonate, lemon, white vinegar and hot water for mopping the floor. Also antibacterial wipes and fairy liquid and hot water plus a dab of dettol πŸ˜πŸ‘ Yes hopefully we'll all get through this. Thanks do much to you all. Take care ❀😘 xxx
