Cyprofloxacin side effects what to do.

OswaldThistlebalm profile image

Hi all, my GP put me on 500MGs of Cyprofloxacin twice daily as I have Prostatitis, I have had this before for a UTI, this time I am 3 tablets into tge treatment of a two week course, tonight I am lying in bed with some burning and tingling in both feet upto knee level also feel a little spaced out although not to bad, my thighs also feel a bit tingly now and then and the bottom of my feet.

What should I do? Let the GP know, stop taking or just soldier on?

Cheers & God bless my fellow sufferers. 🥰

Sean

It’s not a good idea to cease meds without a drs. Ok

Actually the leaflet in the box say stop if your getting certain symptoms and believe me I fear the Cypro more than the prostate inflamation.

Definitely let doctor know. Hoping there is a different antibiotic you can take instead as Ciprofloxacin isn’t for everyone.

Wishing you well. Xxxx

Some folks find they get tendonitis with this drug, including me. Please discuss with your gp soon.

Hi Oswald

I just finished a two week course of cipro. I got very similar side effects, but found after 4 or 5 days they eased. I understand some people do get more prominent side effects, so as others have said do mention to your gp

Wishing you all the best. Take care.

With this AB I got terrible (almost painful) itching and swelling of my mucous membranes, it took me a while to realise it was the antibiotic, at first I thought I was getting a new cancer, quite a fright! I looked up prostatitis and there are many other types of AB one can take, but some are in the same family as ciprofloxacin, i.e., CHINOLONES ! Everybody should beware of chinolones and ask for a different med (if possible), they have very nasty side effects.

This is the correct dose, though the standard treatment is 4-6 weeks, because prostate penetration by antibiotics is very poor; Prostate Cancer UK provides guidance on their website (though, I hasten to add, there is no link between prostatitis and cancer). There are alternative fluorquinolones which might suit you better, and also trimethoprim. If you have a prostate infection, you really must get rid of it - although most acute prostatitis clears up completely, you don't want the problem to become chronic.

Not what you're looking for?
