How old would say I was there Carole? My mother wrote my date of birth on the back but not the date it was taken. My disrespectful friends reckon 2 or 3. π‘
You can say that again. Went on a 3 mile walk with friends with lunch afterwards. Weather was good , sky blue and the sun was out. We walked along our coastline. It lifted our spirits. Lunch was Welsh Glamorgan sausages, and mash with vegetables and onion gravy. Sumptuous! Served in the pub what we locals call...The Pub on the Pond.
My exercise group is planning for a VE dance in May. We have booked a 40s type band and some professional dancers to show us how to do the dances. I always liked Glenn Miller type music. We are also providing war time sandwiches of spam and corned beef. I would be ever so grateful if you can think of any ideas to make it all go with a bang. Maybe you have some memories as to how you celebrated VE day. If so, could you post them on here Don. Perhaps a poem? Good to hear you are getting on fine at the moment.
Goodness me, I have so many memories of the 40s. I was a Post Office Messenger (Telegraph Lad) at the time aged 14. I have photo of me in my uniform which I'll probably post on here at some time.
Lovely baby! I love baby photos. I can remember when the centre pages of dad's newspaper were all baby photos, now its so called celebrities in some weird fashions! x
You won't remember them as a child but you may remember them as a parent. "Sunny Smiles".they were little books that were distributed by charities and often seen at schools depicting orphaned children in Africa and imploring us all to buy a 'sunny smile' to help an orphaned child, they wouldn't be politically correct now but i think they were distributed by Oxfam or someone like that?
That's right I do remember. It was National Childrens Home here in Southport and I used to help out driving folk around now and then when my Aunt was a volunteer. One little lad stood out as a cheeky little rascal and I was so pleased when he pops up on the BBC Antiques Road Show recently as one of the experts.
