Its getting worse i fear

Hope you all could cope with your lung and asthma problems over xmas, my love to you all. I have Asthma and COPD. I was just at my local shop/store in our village the other day and i was getting more and more out of breath. By the time i got to the til i was gasping, it really shook me up. I'm going to complain to my doctors because i'm not getting my asthma and COPD meds sent every month, its not on, and i needed a puffer then. I'm frightened at how worse it'll get, will i be put on oxygen soon, i guess it'll be something i have to put up with. I pray for us all, and i wish you all a happy new year.

Happy Christmas to you as well!

Back in March I got really cross when the local Boots lost my prescription and it turned up a month later and there was a message in it saying to book for a check up at the surgery which I could happily ignore and throw in the bin as that had been done the month previously when I went to the surgery and made a fuss and they sorted me out with my prescriptions then!

One thing is definite after that performance is that I won't be using that Boots again!

I know how frightening it is as I am struggling now and that's with my meds. I can't understand why your not getting your meds regularly as your supposed to. Complain immediately as it looks like you are being overlooked for some reason. Good luck chook 😉

Hi valgal76 - I have Asthma and COPD and it can be scary.

RE: Your meds. I never run out and here is why. I registered for Patient Access and NHS site and every month or even if I run out of Something I order meds on line. You GP will have any info or number you may need,

Really it is good. Nominate a pharmacy with your doctor and they will send your prescription to your nominated Pharmacists - If they deliver you can get it delivered to your home, or you can pick it up whichever is best for you,

Here is a link to Patient Access, There is also an NHS Ap/

patientaccess.com/

Hope this helps, message me if you need more info,

Same for me copd asthma and bronchietasis so Dare'nt run out of meds even delay can be crucial. I use system online to ask gp and NHS app to keep an eye on orders etc

In U.S. we order daily meds with 90 day supply and I typically reorder around day 60 - 75. My pharmacy sends me an email to let me know it’s time.

We use Patient access, a good app. and we are never late with meds.

My Ventolin has been limited , I can’t order it once a month ….and took a time before I was given a rescue pack . I have had to start it and just hope I can have another . An extra worry which doesn’t help my breathing

No you are being treat poor Knitter, I always get rescue pack but every time I have a review, nurse or structured pharmasist - They want me to take more Atrovent and drop ventalin, I just say NO happy as I am. They keep trying.

I have been on ambulatory oxygen for a few months and it has helped a lot. My local pharmacy delivers my meds monthly, but I have to request them online via my GP I do check after I have placed the online request that the GP has sent the prescription to the pharmacy. COPD is a progressive disease it never goes away, I have learnt to accept that I need a mobility scooter for anything other than a few yards. Don’t struggle with going out look for things to make it easier.

Yes Biker88, i too have a scooter. I do get some odd looks at me now and then, as i'm only 48, but i don't give a fig!!!!. I can't walk more than ten steps and i can't stand for more than 3-5 minutes, so on the scooter i go, and i also have a walker trolley i use for going on the bus to the hospital, happy new years

I would recommend contacting the practice manager about your problem. Continuity is very important when taking preventative inhaler meds. It's also a pressure to remember to order them in time every month. Why can't the prescription renew automatically with an annual review?

As someone else has mentioned, the NHS app is very easy to use. It's the only way that I'm allowed to order repeat meds now; we used to be able to ask our pharamacy to do it but that's been stopped.

I do hope that you manage to sort it out very soon.

Take care xxx

I've been really struggling over the holidays too Valgal, desperate to stay out of hospital. I do hope they sort out your meds for you, it's not right to be left without essential medication. Good luck and let's hope we all have an improvement in our health with the coming year. x

I never have any trouble getting meds. I use System Online & can order them 7 days early. I think most surgeries offer SO as an option. I keep one of everything in reserve, in case of shortages. You nominate a pharmacy & usually the prescription is ready next day. I find it more user-friendly than the nhs app.

I use Pharmacy 2U. I order what I need and it is posted to me. I am notified on every step: when my order has been approved by my surgery, when they send it out to me. If they don't have something they inform me and the surgery so a replacement can be ordered by them. I have never had a problem which wasn't my own fault! They also remind you to order early if there are bank holidays coming. I would highly recommend.

You should never be without your inhalers, I think someone needs a stern talking to!

All the best for 2025 xx

I use Patient Access app - I go on it order and they send script via computer to chemish, who deliver it to me, works well.

Yes, I go on PA app too and P2U post it to me. The difference is that they are a national service, so very very rarely don’t have an item. Also with big buying power, they aim to save money for the NHS!

Wishing you a happy, healthy New Year Ern xx
