Our surgery has changed the booking system and the way it works. This new AskmyGP starts tomorrow, I spotted it on Facebook. Are all surgeries changing, it is a completely different setup, and I'm confused.Anyone have any useful information or help, ? Thank you. Jane

Not heard of that Jane so I hope our GP practice isn’t changing. We’ll see in due course.
Happy new year. Xxxx
Mine changed late last year to "sit and wait". I w anted to speak to the triage nurse she no longer exists and i could book a telephone call for a week later!
If i book and appointment using the internet then it will only be in 2weeks and 3 days time. This is printed out to make it clear. I Always used this method before. Now i have phone and make an appointment for an hour to sit and wait. If you are infective they will put you in a separate room but this doesnt work the other way round to protect us as vunerable people from succumbing to whatever bugs are floating around in that hour. I will say i had to do this, and pointed this out to no avail.
Admittedly i saw a nurse who was qualified to give a scrip and she was very thorough ,excellent.
Cannot help you havent sussed ours out completely yet.
There simply is not enough doctors and as they take at least seven yrs to train so there has to be changes . I have read that some are using these nurse practioners to deal with straightforward cases to take the load and even go out like paramedics to do visits. The newest shortage of staff is the home- visiting nurses .
The NHS has been inadequate for at least 30 yrs and the change to hospital trusts has really had a deleterious effect on the whole system . I did work for NHS from 1960s until i retired so do see this from both sides, staff and patient.
Sorry to preach, do feel strongly about this.,
Hi we have had ask my GP for a while now, we have to phone or email the surgery and then wait for the doctor to ring you back. Then you either have to go and see them or they just send out a prescription. I honestly prefer the old way, ask my GP is so lmpersonal and makes me feel as though I'm a burden on the system. You may find it works for you, but we all have our own thoughts. Let us know how it goes have a lovely day and take care of yourself 😊 Bernadette xx
Like Bernadette, my gp practice uses Ask my Gp...but I don’t mind the system.
I contact them by email....it’s triaged then doctor or nurse rings back quickly if necessary ....then face to face appointment that day or a telephone consultation .
If it’s not urgent they make a later appointment.
Not heard of that so many changes happening.
