Down and disheartened

So after three sets of antibiotics for a chest infection I thought I was getting better. I was less wheezy, my chest didn't feel like it was full of popping candy and I could breath. Stopped antibiotics 48 hrs ago. Now wheeze when I take a deep breath (I took inhaler it makes no difference). My chest feels a little fizzy again (not as bad). I've lost a stone so far with this, it's seriously ruining my Christmas. Just don't have the Xmas spirit at the minute and I'm a happy little Christmas Elf normally. I just want to know exactly whats going on and have it fixed. Had chest x-rays they were clear but I still worry that something nasty is going on. Feel blue.

Have you given the surgery a specimen of what's coming off your chest so that it can be tested for the bug that's causing the problems? That way the doctor can choose the best antibiotic rather than throwing the usual ones at it one by one.

Agree with Ergendl - get a sputum sample to your GP for checking, just in case you need a different antibiotic. Good luck and hope you get sorted soon and get that happy little elf back for Christmas x

Thanks, yes I did. They gave me a new set. Went back today as they had run out and still not right and doc has given me another week's worth.

Spoke to doc about worrying something worse was going on and she said nothing like that was currently on her radar but asked me to monitor my weight. She said if I loose more now I'm on the antibiotics and have my appetite back shed be more concerned, as it is it's probably from a) fighting infection and b) from being off my food for a week or so.

Watching Xmas films to try and get into the spirit. OH is off work for the hols now too which I think will help 😁. Merry Christmas, seasons greetings to you all xx🎅

Sounds positive, but do monitor everything, as your GP suggests -will definitely help having your OH there. Enjoy those films (I'll be re-watching Casino Royale tonight) and hope you have a wonderful and healthy Christmas x

Has the GP suggested using a short course of steroids?

No. I'm supposed to go back after new year to see the asthmas nurse though. She's going to check my chests clear. Hope it is by then!
