Bronchiectasis NOS

Does anyone know what this means? The NOS part I mean. How does that differ from any other bronchiectasis diagnosis? Is it a proper diagnosis? I feel so lost as to what this means for my life or my health now. I already have lupus to cope with!

"Not Otherwise Specified (NOS) is a subcategory in systems of disease/disorder classification such as ICD-9, ICD-10, or DSM-IV. It is generally used to note the presence of an illness where the symptoms presented were sufficient to make a general diagnosis, but where a specific diagnosis was not made."

Who diagnosed you? This appears to be just another label for bronch which is used between clinicians. I really wouldn’t worry about it, rather make sure that you have a bronchiectasis specialist consultant- not a general respiratory consultant. Learn as much about the condition and how to put yourself in control. Then you can lead a pretty normal life. I have done so since I was diagnosed at the age of three 66 years ago. There is lots of help and support on here.

An emergency care doctor at my local hospital diagnosed me when I was very ill over the summer. I currently attend the brompton hospital who are wonderful but it's been a long time since I had a CT there which I think explained why they missed it..

Are you under the Brompton for bronchiectasis or something else? If I were you I wd contact your consultant at the Brompton and discuss the bronchiectasis duagnisis with them.

I was referred to the brompton two years ago under their complex cough clinic, as the first noticeable manifestation of my condition was shortness of breath and frequent chest infections. I have only recently been diagnosed with lupus, and have an appointment at the brompton in December.

Good, it looks as though they will be doing all of the relevant tests, ct scan most important to diagnose your chest condition. People with lupus can develop.bronch because of the frequent chest infections which it can cause. I suggest that you tell them that the emergency doctor commented on bronchiectasis. If they do diagnose you as having bronch you are with the best people. They have really good bronch experts there. Just make sure that you are referred on to one of them. Good luck. Do let us know how you get on.
