Today I clicked on the heading 'See others who are similar to you' which appears before the 'Order your 2019 BLF Christmas cards' after every posting.
It gave me five names, three of them 84 years old, one 85 years old, one 84 years old and one 83 years old. The thing that worries me is that none of these members have ever posted anything! Is admin implying that I at 88 should be following their example? π±
You are no2 on my list and Pete is no7,it's a bit like that tv series with Patrick McGowan 'the prisoner' come in No 6....seriously what a load of twaddle but nice that you 2 are on my list.
Good morning Mr.D and I don't want you to be discouraged in any way whatsoever. I'm not at all sure that the "See members who may be similar to your profile" feature,is actually not a load of good. As you rightly say, members names that have never responded to,posted an item or even "liked" one,are of no help. I see this can be a waste of HU's resources to be quite blunt!
So no need to worry, not even anyone with a profile similar to yours, could even begin to challenge your position of π King of Rhymes!!π
Just a bit of gentle HU leg-pulling SH, I'm sure the system works in the majority of cases. Certainly Pete was given a couple of very good names. π When I hit 100 it will probably struggle a bit. π
It can only be as good as members profiles which tend to be a bit sparse because of security reasons.
Nooo........! You've got it the wrong way round Don - you're the shining example that all 80 pluses should be 'trying' to follow and keep up withπππΌπ
I had a look a bit ago, other than they were all female like me, did not understand the logic of the computer's choices. Over time, on the few sites I am on, I have learnt to recognise the people who are interesting for various reasons, and always check their posts. I think life can be more interesting if I see something that sets my weird mind off, I will read it, regardless of the poster, find out more that way, boring if just "people like me".
Iβve just looked at my profile and tried to update it with my condition, alpha 1 antitrypsin deficiency, which is rare but not unknown. The site didnβt recognise it and wouldnβt let me enter it., so no one else with this illness will be able to find someone like them. Bit of a waste of time really.
Not so, people looking for rare complaints will use the search facility which will usually bring up at least one hit, more often a large number. Try it with alpha 1 antitrypsin deficiency if you haven't already done so. πTrying to cover the whole medical dictionary in the Profile menu would be impossible.
Incidently I've found that reading a members very first posting will give you far more information about the member than their profile. For security reasons people tend to keep profiles limited.
