Hard time sleeping on my right side.

Hi everyone

I used to sleep in my right side but lately I have not been able to do so . I wake up having difficulty breathing which I never had. So I turn to my left side and start breathing good. I been having alot of acid reflux and doctor gave me prepaid to take. It works but after after a while I still have chest gas pain but not as bad as before. Do you guys think it has to do with eating after 8pm us the problem? My husband gets home from work at 8pm and we eat dinner around that time then off to bed at 10:30 pm . sometimes I have good night sleep sometime I wake up can't breath good with heavy stomach pajn and chest discomfort like I'm going to throw up. Been telling my doctor took EKG and he said no heart problem. Im thinking i should stop eating after 8pm. Please help

2 1/2 hours between eating and bed shouldnt be too bad but you could try eating earlier.

The reason you sleep without getting breathless on the left hand side is because the entrance to your stomach is a bit down on the right and if you sleep on that side its easy for stomach acid to escape into your oesophagus. If you sleep in the left, gravity will help keep the acid in the stomach where it belongs.

I never used to eat after 7pm but now I'm not leaving work often until after 7. By the time I get home, do various things, it's getting on for 9pm before I'm starting to prepare a meal. I am fairly certain this is in part responsible for my digestive problems, weight gain and poor sleep, and heavy stomach feeling.

As a separate matter, I used always to sleep on my left side. Then suddenly one night I found it was causing me discomfort, almost pain, and my heart was thumping. So I had to switch to sleeping on my back. But this occurred before I started this current job so the two things are unrelated.

I don't know what the solution is for you, but I do hope things improve soon 🤞

If you look at a picture of the esophagus and stomach you can see that it is much easier for acid to enter the esophagus when you are on right side then when you are on your left side.
