Hi, I have emphysema/asthma overlap. I have been on Fostair for several years and found that it does help me although I know that it doesn't suit everyone. When it was first prescribed it was about a month before I felt the full benefit. I also have Spiriva respimat but can't honestly say that I have felt any benefit at all from that although, again, I know that some find it beneficial. I hope that they help you.
I thought it was more my asthma, apparently fev1 results at 65% put me at the mild end of moderate...so confusing...i’m just getting my head round it 🤦♀️
it is hard to keep up with breath problem, it just doesnot feel right every breath, i have tried many medications, including asthma and copd, but none worked.
I used the 100/6 for 2 1/2 years, now on Fostair 200/6 for a year (higher dose of corticosteroids) because of a high Eosinophil count. It definitely helped me to work full time and I will be off sailing again for a week in October. My FEV1 is 28%. As said by CDPO16 give it a month to start working to full effect. It doesn't suit everyone though.
I was changed from Sirdupla to Fostair had terrible reaction and side effects. Made my breathing worse, rash on bottom of legs, and terrible panic attacks. I stopped it myself and my respiratory nurse agreed it was Fostair caused the problems. I am now back on Surdupla. I have taken for Spiriva for 8yrs and no problems. I know quite a lit on here had problems with Fostair but it might be ok for you. Any side effects stop it immediately and contact your GP or respiratory team. Sheila.
Hi. I have just gone on to foster no problems do far better than my last inhaler ( I have copd) I also have see breeze I think it's called another new oneits only little but good. Used to have inhalers with powder in and it often just stopped so the new ones fingers crossed food. Some people dont think get on with foster but sometimes it could be it dosent suit everyone. So hopefully suit you good luck. Naomi
I use Seretide 500 and was put on Spiriva Respimat a few years ago when my asthma was not controlled. It felt really weird when I first took it, because in the spring/summer when my hay fever kicked in, I realised how ill my allergies actually made me but my asthma was controlled. A few years down the line, I find my COPD is now kicking in during the summer. OSA has now been diagnosed, so I will be getting a CPAP next week - just in time for starting uni! 🤗
I've just moved onto the same medication as you and since changing to the Fostair inhaler, I have noticed a big difference. I am far less breathless although I do have a persistent sore throat, not sure if its linked. Hope you find the same benefit.
Asthma & mild Bronch. On fostair for nearly 3 years now. I find it utterly brilliant so much so that A. I rarely need ventolin & B. my fragile thin skin - from Seretide usage - is almost back to normal. Changed my life 😀. All the best with it. P
Results depend on the individual. I have had asthma since I was seven years old (71) now and COPD approx 12 years. Am on Spiriva, which helps. Was on Seretide and it was changed to Fostair which made my lungs much, much worse and made me feel totally psychotic, with panic attacks. Back on Seretide now. I find exercise helps more than anything else. Good luck.
I heard about panic attacks from somebody else, after reading advice on here, i will certainly know what to look for. Seretide didn’t suit me!Thankyou, hope you stay well 🙂
Vee70 - do you use a spacer with your inhalers? I exercise at the hospital and have been told that the spacer is much better because the stuff in it gets into your lungs better than not using one. Also I rinse my mouth after using my inhaler.
I am on Spiriva Respimat, Symbicort and Ventolin. None seem to help and have never been changed by pulmonary doctor. Have been told I have emphysema with asthma overlap, but I just feel that it is the emphysema that bothers me most. I'm beginning to suspect that nothing really helps emphysema much. Do others feel this way? I would switch in a minute if I thought another inhaler might do better. I believe my stage is moderate.
I am just trying to find the right meds to hopefully bring some relief.
Have you been back to see if they can give you anything else? So many inhalers, i’m determined to exhaust all avenues. Only 49 with a 10yr old to look after, i need to be as well as is possible.
