STAGE FOUR

Anyone at stage four who can tell me the symptoms

they are having please. Also are you on Oxygen for this

stage please.

My weight having increased somewhat, and being

unable to decrease it no matter how little l eat.A consultant

who will not prescribe Roflumilast (known to have a side

effect of weight loss) because my COPD is the wrong kind.

But if it loses me weight, and improves my breathing, thereby

improving my quality of life, surely l should be able to take it ?

Hi

I am stage four using Ambulitory oxygen therapy for exercise and moving around. Symptoms are the the same breathlessness. My abilities are slower, but I still go shopping most days, still drive. Just take things at a slower pace. Plenty of exercise.

With regards your specific problem, can you be referred to a pulmonary rehabilitation course, one hour exercise one hour education twice weekly for six weeks.

Exercise is the key to losing weight with a sensible diet which can be discussed at pulmonary rehabilitation session, one to one if required.

I realise exercise is key,but have enough air to climb stairs for

instance, but that is it.Anything else is out of the question, not even

going back down.Have been to rehab twice, first time was good, but

not at stage four then.Tried the second one,did two exercises, just,

and that is why thought l was at stage four,or atleast near.It is a

catch 22,no exercise no weight loss.Have now been given opportunity

to go to Weight Watchers, where l can atleast get a proper diet.

Thank you.

Good luck with the weight loss and movement plans syntax.

You can also get referral from GP to free sessions at Slimming World. As you say, you don’t eat much, but they will help you with better choices so what you can manage will help with your weight loss.

It is also great to attend a group setting as the support can make all the difference. I have been amazed how many are living with serious health issues and been a wonderful support network.

Having had a life time of thinking that I understood what I “should” and “shouldn’t” eat, but continuous struggling with my weight, it completely opened my eyes to a better mindset and relationship with food.

Have shed 6 stone, which needed to go, for the sake of my breathing and joints! It is sustainable for life..... kept off the first 4 stone for 19 months now and taken further 2 stone off gradually over time until happy with where I am now.

No regime will suit absolutely everyone, but I do wish you well in finding what works best for you.

Syntax,it may be that your copd condition is not predominantly of an inflammatory nature which is what Roflumilast is prescribed for treating, hence your consultants refusal to prescribe it?

Perhaps he/she can prescribe something to help with that weight loss alongside the normal dietary and exercise advice.?

Good luck for your future well being. :)
