Hi I wonder if anyone can give me any advice. About six or seven weeks ago I applied for attendance allowance, much to my surprise today I found that the department had put the sum of £234.80 in to my bank account, I have had no accompanying letter or information to explain things to me. I don't know if this money is back pay to when they received my claim (if so I think they still owe me a bit) or is it a four weekly payment. When I was trying to make sense of it on the Gov web site I thought it said that it would be a weekly payment I have tried to find a phone number to contact them to no avail, why is it all so difficult? Also today I received a letter from the local council asking if I had a career or did I know someone that was eligible, if I don't answer by a certain date it could affect my lone person housing tax, whats that all about???
I would be so grateful if anyone could shed a bit of light on things for me, just in case you can thank you so much x

Your letter explaining will probably arrive tomorrow or the next day when I was awarded pip I had the money In My account before I got the letter telling me what I had been awarded , my mum is on attendance allowance and she is paid 4 weekly in arrears I think hope that helps a little bit , as for the council I have no idea what they mean by that 🤪 I would ring them and ask though last thing you need is your benefit affected x
My mum's attendance allowance isn't weekly. She received an odd letter too she felt it was to try to catch her out? To ask her to answer something differently to what she had put on her AA form.
She is 85 and had felt guilty applying to start with pride etc
The system is crazy, many people who get Attendance Allowance also receive care, if its a live in carer it could alter your rates & if you get AA for a mental health issue you may not be liable to pay council tax, hence the reason they send out all these strange sounding letters. If there was a stream lined application form for all disabled type benefits it would make things easier for all claimants and the staff. Would be much quicker & less time consumming. All you can do is send the info they ask for, the council do have to take into account any AA you do get and you are obliged to notify them of a change in income even though the DWP notify them if you are a pensioner. It is so frustrating especially for older persons , you cannot notify anyone until you get the written details of what sum you will receive and how often. Every best wish at getting things sorted without to much difficulty.
234.80 is 4 weeks payment of the lower attendance allowance. They usually pay a lump sum of back payments from first application. This is a monthly payment.
