The sounds of nature

Morning ( just) everyone .I have just spent a pleasant 1/2 hour watching a family of swifts training to attack a swarm if miggies ( the ones that no longer seem to spatter my windshield anymore) hanging over me garden , listening ( because my garden is very quiet) to their shrill shreek you can hear the subtle differences they make as they change their angle and speed of attack , I miss the sounds of nature as walks in forests or along nature trails are no longer possible , we must enjoy what we can when we can I now have a much better appreciation of the small things in life

We were only commenting recently about the lack of squashed insects that used to decorate windscreen and bonnet only a few years ago.

No swifts flying this year, they used to nest on the side of the house, but now we have plastic replacement fascias and I don't think the mud sticks to them to make nests.

I have been sitting in the garden watching the sparrows though, there seem more of them about. Like you I miss woodland walks but I am lucky to have a garden even if it is small.

Nature through my window is all I can watch now and being in town that is pretty limited.I have a birdtable and have house sparrows and the occasional pigeon who makes the birdtable creak with its weight. This year I have had rare visits from a blackbird and a thrush.I thought they were ground feeders who look for tasty worms in the soil so that was a treat.I also miss walking through forests with the sun glinting through the branches and seeing and hearing the forest wildlife. To sit by a stream that is tumbling down over rocks and pebbles. The smell of the leaves after a rain shower........ Better stop there getting a lump in my throat. I miss those things so much. xx

I think the windscreen design of most cars these days is better at swooshing the flies to the side rather than smashing them against the glass. I occasionally get daredevil spiders clinging desperately to the windscreen wipers or the wing mirrors.

It's the wing mirrors at mine that gets tbe spiders , craft birds have taken to looking there for them

Sounds Lovely , the main birds I get are pidgeons and blue tits in the spring. Never ceases to amaze me how birds survive in all weathers .
