Sleep Apnea gadget last night

Of all the days to have to be fitted for a gadget that tests for sleep apnea it had to be last night. So 10pm my husband Brian helped me fit the gadget over my pyjamas two sensors and the actual gadget and finger sp02 and a breating thing like oxygen going up my nose I thought I was never going to sleep with that on. We did laugh at the sight of me and when my son came home and saw me he was laughing too. I think that with all that heat of the day I was so tired and before long I was asleep. 💤

I should find out soon whether or not I have sleep apnea. X 😊

One if the sensors came off at 4am so stuck it back on and went off to sleep again. I didn't sleep much the night before so thankfully really tired x

Hi Patsy164,

I know exactly what you mean, when I did mine I was already using oxygen 24/7, so I had my normal oxygen tube as well as the sensors in my nostrils, the two wires around my body connected to the box on my chest the finger pulse monitor and watch, I looked like a suicide bomber!😀

I’m grateful I had it done though, I found out I didn’t have sleep apnea it was oxygen retention, I’m now on BiPAP at night and my life has drastically improved, I no longer fall asleep in the morning or get the tremors caused by oxygen retention and I’m able to get eight hours sleep at night, I’ve also had my oxygen reduced to 1 litre 15 hours a day 8 of which is at bedtime, I do still use ambulatory oxygen between 2-5 litres on exertion.

Good luck with your test.

Ian.

Thanks Ian I hope my test shows something, not that I want sleep apnea, but it would be nice to know if there is a problem or not. Yes it does look like a bit like a suicide bomber 😊

Yes the mask looks very funny at first but hopefully you will get used to it and it will become normal to use.

I’ve had such success using mine for the last 2 years. I don’t snore anymore and my wheezy chest is now clear.

Good luck! I tell my granddaughter that it’s my Miss Piggy mask 😷

Thank you. Wow that is good that you no longer snore and your chest is clear. I'm just hoping the test will show that something is wrong with my oxygen levels and they can put me right. X

So now you have the waiting game ... ... I hope that you can soon discover what’s wrong so that you can take steps in the right direction. My best wishes.

Sorry Patsy, had to laugh thinking of you looking like a suicide bomber, how do you manage if you need the loo in the night, or like me toss and turn alot. But seriously hope you get to the bottom of your problem, keep us updated x

Lzb1 is was funny but I could walk about which I did at 4am to find one of the straps had come undone! I always sleep on my side so probably that's why. If I know my luck something would have gone wrong and they couldn't get a proper reading. Still I will see x 😊

Congrats --You did better than me!!! I started early at home to put all the correct straps and hook ups together. Now I'm not always tech or mechanically adept -but eventually I fix everything(my Dad's brace, my friends printer, etc.) So when I put on the rig I had examined the instructions, watched a similar U Tube video---Ready. NOT. I did it for hours but the "on" light never went on. I even put it together without me. I even begged a neighbor to put in on me. No light. It had now been 4 + hours and I quit -it was too late anyway to get the required amount of sleep.

I returned it to the facility and said I could not get it to work. The receptionist hinted that "they don't always work right". Then later a tech from the sleep department called and said since I was too incompetent to handle things on my own I would have to schedule an over night study.

Bad me I still haven't gone ---(but I also haven't had "pre am headaches" in months)

Oh dear that isn't good patmc I hope I'm more successful my husband thinks there is bound to be a problem as I'm not a straightforward person. X

I'm firmly convinced that it just was that the equipment wasn't working correctly. My sister in another state had an easier time.
