Frustration - can anybody help

Frustration. Can anybody help. I happened to have a lung xray in connection with an eye condition, about a year ago. It didn't show up anything that helped with the eye condition but, much to my surprise, it showed up a lung/heart condition - atelactasis. I am loathe to take any medication at all but I had been using a blue inhaler for about a year and then accepted using a brown inhaler. I am loathe to use the brown inhaler but, being a keen walker, find the blue one helpful. Is it detrimental to just use the blue inhaler?

In a nutshell gagajune the answer is yes,you have been given the brown inhaler as a long term bronchodilator to help with your atelectasis which in your case may well have been obstructive in nature and although over time it can clear itself you are best advised to continue with its use until such time as you review it with your Gp or lung consultant if you have one.often the brown inhaler is prescribed for people with asthmatic tendencies.

Best wishes Ski's and Scruff's

Use what ever makes your body feel better. Use the Blue one if you feel it is much better for you’.

Have you been given a diagnosis other than atalectasis? It sounds as if you have asthma. In which case I agree with Skis, the brown inhaler contains low dose corticosteroids which should prevent any inflammation of the airways, and the blue one is for emergencies when the preventer hasn’t prevented. I am intrigued by the results of the x-ray as usually asthma would not show on that. I should like to know a little more about your story.

I think the recognised guidance is that if you use your blue rescue inhaler more than three times a week, you also should take the brown preventer.

Have a look at the asthma UK guidance or NHS choice on the Internet, about Ventolin use.

Was it your GP or your consultant that prescribed the inhalers? Perhaps you should contact them again for advice.

Hi again, I just googled your lung condition, I would ask for advice from your health professional for sure.

In short yes. Brown is a preventer so should be being taken as prescribed.
