Asthma or copd

Hi guys, just after some advice.

Currently under the pulmonologist with a working diagnosis of asthma. Constant tight chest, especially when humid. Had spirometery and lung function test, both of which gave good results. I don't respond very well to inhalers. Is it possible that the spirometery and lft could be wrong?

Hello Luke, 👋

I doubt the spirometry test could be wrong because I think it is quite precise. I've had so many spirometry tests over the years and they have never been far off the mark. When I first started having tightness in my chest and slight shortness of breath my doctor thought it was asthma and put me on inhalers. However, the inhalers did little to help and he sent me to a lung specialist who told me typically, asthmatics feel relief when on inhalers. So they did more digging around and found I have Obliterative Bronchiolitis. This doesn't mean you don't have asthma. It means here are many variables and it really takes time to come to a firm diagnosis. Hang in there. xx 😊👍

Just seek more advice, it took ages to get my lung disease diagnosis and a specialist hospital.

Thanks for your advice, what were you diagnosed with? And what are your symptoms if you don't mind me asking?

Thanks

Diagnosed with a rare lung disease called obliterative bronchiolitis also known as bronchiolitis obliterans, just kept getting awful chest infections and couldn’t get over them properly kept choking and doing blue, then started coughing up blood (just abit) then went into hospital just after my 21st birthday and didn’t leave for 5 weeks, oxygen levels kept dropping and ended up in intensive care with respiratory failure type 2, which sort of triggered this lung disease. I have a cough most of the time, knackered all the time, get Ill a lot, like right now I’m ill and can’t control my cough due to my airways being so damaged and narrowed! When I lay down I can hear a wheeze and crackle constantly. It’s just shit really I’m still young and can’t live a normal life atall! My FEV1 results are at about 40% which is showing moderate to severe COPD, and have to take a shit load of meds daily :(
