Prednisolone affects me emotionally too....on a high dose I can feel on top of the world, and sometimes bad tempered. When I go back to my normal 5mg my mood drops....sometimes significantly ,I can feel quite depressed.

Now I ask for a slowly decreasing dose which helps me manage both my lung condition and my emotional response.

Usually, I drop the steroids by 5mg a time......but my consultant suggested a 1mg decrease after I had been on a higher dose for a long time. I was given 1mg tablets on prescription .

Can you contact your health professional to ask their advice?

By the way, I can have problems if I drink alcohol on a higher dose of pred. Non alcoholic beer until this decrease time is over? Would that help, I wonder?

Best of luck....I know how it feels .

Yes, this is one of the side affects, it tells you in The Leaflet. I hate going on them but they do the "Job", Good that I generally only need them 2/3 times a Year, I am a Real Cry baby when weaning off them. Then I get Fat, cos they make you want to eat more. Stay Strong Hun, You can Control Them. Feel it for your Wife, She will understand. Best wishes to you Both.xxxx

My husband had more of a problem with me on high doses, as I was like a cross between speedy gozales and zebedee, could not stop talking when I got home from work etc. yes fits of the munchies, weight balooned. He preferred me on the low doses, as I became blue and silent. I considered the side effects worth it, for the fact they kept my problem under controll.

Oh yes, awful to wean. I am on them permanently at 5mg for Addison's disease so I also have the problem of that when weaning from having higher doses for my lung problems. I am very swollen as it redistributes fat and makes you retain water. It makes you snappy a lot of the time, bad tempered. Then if someone says boo you can jump out of your skin, that is the lack of steroid as you come down I suspect. I am very emotional too, I used to be a real toughy haha, not any more xx You will get there, just take it easy.

Devils tic-tacs indeed. Hate them, avoid them, but they

do the job. Weaning off slowly is essential. Best wishes.

Hi, I've been on Predisnalone for a couple of years now for my Polymyalgia. When I reduce the dose I've been told to do at at 1mg a time, it does take a while though as I usually reduce maybe every two or three weeks. I'm on 2mg a day now, however, when my pain becomes unmanageable, I up it a couple of mg. I understand its not good to reduce at big amounts (I started on 25). Take it slowly.

Regards

Steroid reaction and withdrawal symptoms are really common. I felt very emotional, then like superwoman and quite manic, then weird and depressed when I came off them. Try to come off them as slowly as possible by lowering the dose gradually. Good luck!

I was switched (after weaning me off the Pred.) to Daliresp. It has similar adverse reactions though.
