Another seaside town a lot bigger than Barmouth, more commercial and harder to get to through the mountains but worth the trip. Sandwiches on the seafront.😀 Aberdyi next, there’s lots of abers round here. 😉

Another lovely looking place Don, its great that you are getting around to so many places. Do you have to book into places to park your camper or can you just stop of wherever you fancy. And what are abers?? showing my ignorance I know x

in reply toIzb1

I rarely book, even in the height of the season because I’m self sufficient, all I need at a push is a patch of grass, they can always find me a spot. It is nice to have electric and be near facilities now and then. Some people do what they call ‘wild camping’ just finding an isolated spot somewhere but us oldies need to consider the security issue.

Aber means ‘ mouth or confluence of a river’. Barmouth is an English corruption of Abermawddach, I.e. mouth of the river Mawddach.

There used to be an Army outward bound school just up the road Don,it may still be there? and we had the pleasure?of running into the sea every morning before breakfast. We were only allowed out for one day at the end of the course and the town appeared to be tiny with only one pub,i imagine it is a fair deal bigger now.:)

Ski's who was once catless x

Now as you mention it I don’t remember seeing any pubs. Nice cinema though looked like a restoration job.🙂

Had a day there last year while staying in Fairbourne. Had a trip on the Tallyllyn railway. The prom is impressive and ideal for those of us who need to take it easy when walking.

Following your Journey Don, I love Wales, though I have never been To some of these Towns. Enjoy, and Be Resting also. I'll keep an eye on Carnival's translations of the Places. xxxx

Lots of abers 'cos it means mouth of or joining of a river. So where a stream joins a river or the river joins the sea.

Your journey around Wales is nostalgia personified for me. I used to camp at Llandawg, about a mile south of Harlech. So the places you are visiting are full of memories.

Beautiful places around there.

Enjoy your trip xxx

Llandanwg is where I was staying for my 3 nights, a bed and breakfast place with a camping field behind. I arrange to stay in the camper parked on the field and go to the house for my breakfast each morning.

Back in the good old days when I was at Llandanwg, there was a working farm, we camped in the field. Only facilities were a water pipe, an Elson emptying point and the farmer's wife brought milk and eggs round each morning. The eggs were from her own hens, Sheep wandered through the field as did the odd cow or two.

A lovely generous lady, she found out that my daughter liked chickens so took my children into her private yard to feed the hens.

Down the lane, right on the beach was a retired commander, his wife and her father. Three of the nicest people you could meet. An old chapel was nearly buried by the sand. There was a small caravan site. The railway station was one carriage long and was a request stop.

I expect it's changed a lot now,

Well the narrow lane is now a roadway, at the end is a large pay & display car park with toilets and a cafe. There are many new bungalows, no farm and the Post Office has long gone. The railway halt is still there with a regular diesel driven train service. So yes, there have been a few changes. The church which is well fenced off has quite a history. I'll post a link for skischool to have a look at, he likes things like that. 😉
