Hi this is common when you pack in the fags coz smoking can mask other things. There is a very good quit smoking site on here so why not join it. They know a lot about what happens when you quit. x

Yes I have back in 2006 I understand how hard it is but, if you think about all the muck that is down inside your lungs ,it might help you to understand how hard it's going to be to get it out once most of it has gone you will definitly feel much much better so please try and stick with it

Good luck

Well done for stopping.

It was my big regret with my smoking consultant lady that she did not explain (for obvious reasons) just exactly how awful I would feel for the first six months or so as my body adjusted to the change.

Anyway, it was well worth it - make no mistake. You're now on the home straight and it will get easier day by day.

Good luck.

I GOT OVER MY 30 YEAR SMOKING HABIT AFTER MANY FALSE STARTS, BY DEVELOPING THE MANTRA OF "ONE DAY AT A TIME"

I JOINED A CARDIAC ORIENTED EXERCISE PROGRAM AT THE LOCAL HOSPITAL. I STOPPED BLAMING MYSELF FOR SMOKING AND FOCUSED ON GETTING HEALTHIER AND KEEPING A LOG OF MY RESULTS. WHEN I FELT ILL ADDITIONAL TESTING SHOWED DENTAL PROBLEMS, SO I HAD THOSE TEETH REMOVED AND GOT A PARTIAL PLATE. I WENT ON A DIET AND LOST OVER 30 POUNDS AS YOU FOCUS ON YOU BECOMING A MORE HEALTHIER PERSON, THOSE FEELINGS OF ILLNESS WILL DISAPPEAR. YOU CAN DO THIS, AND PLEASE TRUST ME AS IN MY LIFE I HAVE BEATEN CANCER, SEVERAL HEART ATTACKS (SIX WAY BYPASS OPEN HEART SURGERY) A SOMEWHAT MINOR STROKE, FOLLOWED BY SPEECH THERAPY ETC AND NOW IN THE PROCESS OF BEATING EMPHYSEMA. AT 72 I HAVE A PROFITABLE SMALL BUSINESS AND EVERY NEW DAY IS BETTER THAN YESTERDAY, YOU CAN DO THIS!!

I stopped smoking about 2 1/2 years ago. Part of what you are going through is withdrawal. It will get better. I had many thoughts. One of them was why should I bother when I feel like this? BUT keep with it and you will certainly feel the benefits. Stopping smoking is a miserable experience but with it.

Hi i know how your feeling, i actually went to see my Dr as i was so worried with how ill i felt but after about 3 months i did feel better although i did develop a cough (which i didn’t have when smoking) & this took almost a year to go away, my Dr reassured me this was normal & it was my body getting used to oxygen. I can honestly say giving up was the best decision i ever made so well done to you

Hi bonniemillie12, my advice would be to definitely get checked out by DR. As many have said, smoking can mask a multitude of health issues and once stopped they rise up to the surface. The best thing is not smoking and I gave up 6 months ago and ended up in ICU, which although drastic, was to do with my asthma and copd I never knew I had until I stopped. Just make sure you get checked and then if there is anything underlying you can get help ASAP. Well done for giving up!!! Roz

Well done on your amazing achievement of giving up smoking, please stick at it, you will start to feel better.

After a couple of false starts I gave up 35 years ago with the help of acupuncture. Another thing that helped me was opening a separate bank account for the money I would have spent on cigs. I kept that money for myself! selfishly spending it on clothes and other things I wanted😆 I soon had that many clothes I needed a new wardrobe. I used to love it when cigs went up in the budget as it meant I would have more money to save. After 35 years I still have that separate bank account.

Enjoy the better health that will come your way but also reward yourself for having the power to do it. You should be proud of yourself. xxx

I was going to remind her about the money she will save. I have never smoked but I used to pay the newsagent for the cigarettes he delivered along with my dad's paper daily. I asked him if he would call in to see dad and collect the money, my dad was appalled at the cost! It didn't stop him though🤗

Sorry to hear your efforts were in vain! I wasn't sure if it was the right reply when I wrote it, as a former smoker I know how difficult it is to quit but I thought there's nothing wrong with reminding someone to reward their self for achieving such a difficult thing.

Hi there. My older brother who has COPD & pleural thickening and inflammation finally decided to give up the cigs. Anyway he says he’s felt awful since he did that & he feel that there is no end of mucous that his system is pushing up & it’s grim. He’s not going to go back on the cigs but he wishes he felt better. He thinks it might be a sort of “clearing” mechanism. All that detoxing of the body after all the years of smoking. So I hope both you & my brother start to feel better soon ❤️

You’ve broken the back of it, well done. Now it’s just one day at a time and you’ll start to feel better and then think about it less and less. No magic I’m afraid but you can do it
