I hope everyone who could took advantage of today's weather and topped up their vit D naturally.
I know with the sun and heat comes that familiar feeling that theres just no air ( these feelings of no air or panic actually start in my mind b4 any effects this has on my body , ive come to realised the oxygen content in hot or cold air is exacally the same and its not the conditions that has caused this feeling of lack of oxygen but something ive done) i hope everyone has made the best of today and as always breath easy everyone.

Its been nice to see the sunshine today.I am usually fine with the heat, its the humidity that sometimes comes with it I struggle with, inhaling all that warm moist air seems to cut down on the oxygen intake.Probably why I sadly cannot take showers anymore either. When the sun comes out it makes everything more cheerfull and that has to be a positive.Roll on summer.... xx
Luckily i can still manage to shower , very hard to breath and the phegm is most times awful + it takes ages as we tend to do everything in slow motion , toweling dry is even harder ,usually after i get out of the shower im sucking in air at the window for 5mins but i realise how lucky i am to still be able to do this
Have a great Easter weekend soulboy. Does copd get worse in warm weather and do u mean it's because we panic about everything. Il a wee bit slow today as have another lung infection and the amount of mucus I've got I've never experienced before. Awful. Really tired bringing it up. Does It Ever Stop. Anyway I've a lot to still learn about this illness. So I'll stop whinging and let everyone have a great bank holiday weekend. Enjoy Mx
Generally in warm weather there is for me less chance of catching a cold or flu off anyone and i do love the cold air ,to me air seems to be thicker and have more oxygen in but everyone is different
To be brutally honest dog12 copd never gets better its a degenerative disease that slowly gets worse, thats not saying we dont have our good days (and we must celebrate those) but we can slow it down ,we must stop smoking , excercise ,eat well and have a positive attitude .
As to the panic attacks, they are a symptom of our body lacking oxygen ( dyspnea) , we can do the slightest thing ( bend down , reach up for something out of a wardrobe or even just liedown and we have exceeded what our lungs can supply what the body needs) and a mechanism starts , panic starts as you cant breath your body starts to shake your mouth goes dry heart rate increases and you body or lungs should i say scream for air ,the temptation is to suck in as much air as you can is unbearable but your lungs are hyperinflated so you cant get anymore in what ive learned is to stay calm it will pass , blow out tbrough pursed lips twice as long as you breath in ,this will help the exchange of gases in your lungs and also slow your heart rate down ,i still have difficulty doing the above but at least im not terrified of these attacks anymore, i hope this helps , its not easy to admit a weakness but this illness although in my body is certainly not me , hope your ok and enjoy this glorious weather
Thank you soulboy. Yes I do agree with you on everything u said but gasping for air still frightens me terribly and I thought I was drowning in mucus.I am trying so hard to feel better but then another infection sets in. Im leading a healthier lifestyle than Ive done in years so fingers crossed this helps. The same to you have a good Easter weekend and I do appreciate you contacting me once again. You take good care of you Mx
You're right about the slow motion but it can be hard to adapt when you've been used to rushing everywhere.I have a nice dab radio upstairs and i listen to classic fm which is not something I would have listened to much in the past.but now I find the gentle music distracts me and slows me down when changing the bed, getting dressed, having a bath etc.I listen to more upbeat sounds when I am sitting down.Towel drying is exhausting so I just wrap up in a huge bath towel and sit a while and recover first. It would be great if there was a book full of really practical tips to help us puffing billies [and betties] with advise on how to make everyday tasks a little easier.Im sure there have been a few ideas on here in the past, maybe should start a new thread ? ........ xx
In actual fact there is more o2 in cold air as it is denser than hot air. If you go on the web you might find a weather site for your area (air-ea lol) that will tell you the air density.
I used to have an interest in amateur weather forecasting before I was diagnosed as part of sailing skills. I very quickly connected high air density to breathing easier, I did make a post about this not long after joining here. You can calculate it for yourself by using an online tool that is used for jet engine performance. Here:
Thanks , it was my physiotherapist who told me about the oxygen content in hot and cold air , guess she was using the info as placebo, lol we are never to old to learn 😁
When you are having to work hard, breathing, then your body heat rises also, thus making it more tiring. We can easily burn 800 - 1,000 calories a day just breathing, that is a lot of extra body heat, coupled with a hot day, that makes it a lot harder to breathe. Also pollution levels and dust/pollen tend to increase on hot days which can create an additional load on breathing.
Another point about summer is with "cut grass" if like me you live in an area where there is a lot of grass cutting, like a sports field, that can cause a lot of issues with ozone at night and it will concentrate other pollutants.
We have been getting lots of sun 🌞 recently too. I have been making an effort to sit in it. Really, it doesn't bother me too badly until the humidity creeps up. It is very humid in my area of Japan. That really stifles breathing. The sun is so reassuring and comforting. Have a lovely weekend! xx 😊🌈🌞
Best weather we have had at Easter for many years. I have problems going out in it when its too hot, so go for short spells outdoors. Enjoy if you can as you say its good for the vitamin D.
