Hi everyone,

I was afraid to do long flights again after my bronch diagnosis but a big thank you to the person on this forum who encouraged me. I used nasal sprays, lozenges, salt inhaler and drank lots of water and made a dream trip to Namibia. Even better, I felt better than I’ve felt for years. Was it the warm dry air, or the fact the air is often salty? Has anyone experience of this? It was almost like a cure and I would love to find somewhere similar for winter months. I believe Arizona is good, but medical insurance for the US might be prohibitive.

Well done Pjmf. I’m so glad that you had such a good time. I have bronch, not copd so don’t get too affected by atmospheric conditions. I have travelled all over the world. I find that salty sea air is amazing and was so well on a World Cruise last year and yes, warm, mild, CLEAN air is fine for me. Our cold drizzly winter air drags me down, probably because I am so swaddled in heavy clothes 🤣.

I am having a mixed bag this summer because I am flying to Denver, driving through the Rockies Mountain Park, Rushmore, Cody, Yelliwstone, then a cruise to Alaska from Seattle. I have tried lots of different ins companies as I have dilated cardiomyopathy, AF, osteoporosis ( no broken bones ever) and reflux with the bronch. Being US I am paying them £1300 for the 3 weeks.

I realise now that I have spoken to you before and that we both have bronch. That has made me even happier that you took your courage in your hands and discovered that when you take sensible precautions and look after yourself the sky’s the limit!

Thanks. Yes, I feel so much more optimistic about travel now. I always know I’m better by the sea and go to Greece a lot. Cruises not for me...too much time being a reluctant sailor partner...I want to stop the bus and get off!!!

Well done and have you booked your next trip yet?

I’m well into my 70s with moderate COPD and still fly every year to visit my adopted country South Africa where I lived for 30 years.

So the answer is, yes, that climate is very beneficial.

I never had anything much more serious than a cold when I lived there

So pleased you did that trip. That’s no mean feat. Good wishes for a warm bank holiday weekend.
