Just completed my 1st half marathon (with bronchiectasis)

Dodgylungsrunner profile image

Hi everyone.. just a quick post.. on Sunday I completed my 1st half marathon (Colchester Half Marathon).. I've had bronchiectasis now for 35 years (fairly severe in the base of both lungs).. luckily I'm able to run.. so after 5 months and 245 miles of training gradually building up my millage I did it... It was a brilliant experience.. I did it in 1.58.56.. which I couldn't believe as I never thought I would do it in under 2 hours... I've been raising money for the blf.. If I can encourage anyone to exercise to their ability it would make me very happy as it it's so beneficial with a lung condition..and if I can do it I'm sure anyone can.. thanks for listening.😉😉😉

PS if anyone would like to make a donation to the blf through my just giving page here's the link. Thankyou

Well done Andy, I also have Bronch but couldn't even walk a marathon because of RA, OA Osteoporosis among other things. I've donated to your Just Giving page. :-)

So lovely to hear a positive story like this - and even if different people will have different capacities, for me it has made me less fearful for the person I care for who has similar severe issues. Thank you!!! Donation on it's way.

Hi Andy, Thanks for your Reply. I don't Live in Spain any More, came back here 6 years ago. I do have my family there. Wished I had never left. But, we have to make the most of a bad Situation. Your Running IS Inspirational Andy, I did a lot of Sports when I lived in Spain, Weather Good and at that time my Health was Very Good. Fuensalida, which Region/Area. There are a few of us on here who have,or are living in Spain. Te Hablar en Espanol Andy?

My Daughter in Law does Marathons & Park Runs all year Round she lives near Leighton Buzzard, so lots of Beautiful country Side. She has Medals Galore. London Marathon twice, Irish too and has just signed up for her next Marathon for the end of this Month. Keep going Andy and please keep us all informed on your challenges. It certainly inspires me to exercise more. Love n Hugs xxxx
