Feeling seriously un -cared for

Due to an uncharacteristically hostile reaction towards the Respiratory Consultant I didn't go back from 2010 (COPD) until 2016..when he diagnosed me with a slow growing 'ground glass' syndrome. Lat year (2018) my GP accidentally read to me a letter from him, which she had on her PC , referring to my carcinogenic stage. I saw the same Consultant last year ( Nov 1st) when he confirmed I had lung cancer. My next appt was to have been March 18th, but I have asked my GP to refer me for a 2 nd opinion/another Consultant., so the latest appt: was cancelled. I've now had the referral through the post, but the earliest appt: I can get is in May. I have an ongoing chest and upper back ache.. I don't want to be melodramatic, but feel neglected.. any reassurances would be welcome.

Your appointment for 18th March should not have been cancelled. You are entitled to a 2nd opinion but that appointment is too far off. You need to see someone urgently.

I wish you well. Xxxx

Thanks for your comment.. I really didn't want to see that Consultant again, but the future is quite scary just now. As a full time carer for an 11 yr old grandchild, as well as working 3 days a week, I'm trying to be as fit as I can, but seems the NHS have given up on me, probably due to my age (75)

Please speak to your doctor urgently as you do need to be seen. Please let us know how things go. Take care xxxx

I agree with Sassy, you need to see a consultant ASAP. I am not surprised you feel neglected. You have not been fairly dealt with.

Push for an earlier appointment.

And let us know how things develop.

I also agree with Sassy - you need to see your gp, explain the circumstances and ask for an urgent referral 😊

Hello DiJones .

Everyone has given the best advice to get an urgent referral and see a consultant. I can't imagine how tough this is for you, my mum is of a similar age and I can't help thinking how much of a struggle it must be daily with all you have on. Please do keep us updated. Sending hugs and love,

Well if they seriously thought that u had lung cancer then one would like to think that they would c u a lot sooner. I have watched many medical programmes and as soon as they think that someone may have cancer they are seen within 2 weeks. Hope that this 're assures u a bit

Omg this is terrible, they should practice what they preach as they are always saying if caught early, get back on the phone and push for that appointment, it is your health they are messing with.

I am having problems with rheumatology they received my referral on 6th February but they explained it is a 18-20 weeks waiting list, I have tried to push it but they wont budge, ahhh the nhs is getting worse.

I do hope you get sorted soon x

I can't believe that it has been confirmed that u have cancer and they are making u wait so long. Can u get your gp to hurry them along? I would sue the ass of them as while u are waiting who knows what could happen. How dare they pay God with your health. The nhs makes me so angry. I had to wait 4 months to c the consultant who has just diagnosed my copd

You won't be uncared for on here , your experience is not good and I have been through a similar fiasco around the time you did i.e 2010. Like yourself I did not go back I just see my GP and take inhalers. Sorry to hear you have cancer diagnosed , thats a long wait in the circumstances when my husband had cancer the second opinion took only weeks but it was concerning an operation when he was already terminal to stop the family from insisting when there was no hope, slightly different to you. Gps can sometimes hasten these appointments if the consultant has the time. Or you could go on the fast attend list where they send you an earlier appointment if someone cancels. The time will soon pass but its emotionally draining while you wait. Take care

This is disgusting. Am so sorry for you. You need an appointment now! See your GP for an URGENT appointment. If this isnt forthcoming ask for a copy of the complaints procedure. This is disgraceful.

Hello Dijones. Sorry to hear about your consultant problems. Did you have the appropriate Scans done for cancer checks. A lung X Ray which shows an abnormality will be checked within 2 weeks via a MRI Scan to rule out cancer. All types of cancer are treated this way. After treatment, there will be 3 monthly follow ups for 2 years then 6 monthly for 3 years.

To leave a cancer patient for 6 to 7 months with no follow up nor- treatments is unethical and should be reported to the medical board. Age Should not be a problem as you still work and are active in looking after your Grandchild. I hope you get seen sooner as the stress of not knowing about treatment, trials, operation or prognosis can be unbearable.

I sincerely hope you get the appointment sooner and the appropriate treatment for you.

We al know that sadly the GREAT NHS is underfunded and is at breaking point proving the service it currently does. By cancelling your initial appointment, wanting. Second opinion / different consultant has only added to your stress levels as now they need to cancel one appointment and find a new consultant with a space for you. You might not want to hear this but you should have put your health before you pride and went to the appointment after the meeting if you still wanted to you could then have asked to see another consultant for future appointments. In your post you never mentioned why you initially fell out with the consultant but health needs to come before pride as it’s you that is losing out on quality health care

Hi I’m so sorry to hear all this you’ve got so much to worry about now, did your gp not read the notes from previous dr before you saw her ? At least if she did she could have seen you earlier and explained what the findings were. My heart goes out to you you’ve been unfairly treated and now to wait and worry until may must seem like a long time away. I really wish you well and you should be proud of yourself at your age looking after you’re grandson and also working when your in such pain . Please let us know how you get on, and I don’t think it’s your own fault for not seeing the same dr again if your not comfortable with him your better off waiting I definitely would although it’s such a frightening time for you . Sending hugs 🤗 (((( )))) and I’ll keep you in my prayers 🌹🌹🌹
