Went gp today for review of medication. Requested by myzelf. I Have been taking budesimide spiriva and salbutamol for 5 years. Told to carry on with this. Deterioation over time inevitable I was told and I accept, but should there have been some discussion around treatment. I felt like I was being fobbed off. Are my expectations too high?

Hi what’s does the Spiriva help with?

It relaxes your lungs and allows you to breathe easier. Long acting so you only need 1 application per day. Also said to cut down exacerbations.0

If you want to reduce the deterioration try increasing exercise, eating more healthily and doing singing exercises, plus avoiding infections. All the best.

No hamster67. Your expectations are not too high.

It’s your body and your health. If you are not getting the support you are entitled to from our wonderful NHS, then see another gp or contact the nearest Respiratory clinic and you can always phone the BLF helpline for solid advice. They can send you brochures to help you with your condition.

Your gp is not a lung specialist.

Besides anything else at the very least you should be having annual check ups at your surgery, they are absolutely essential to monitor your condition.

Don’t be fobbed off.

Good wishes and do let us know how you get on in the near future.
