Well it's not the wrong site if you have dodgy lungs like the rest of us! I hope you don't :) x

when i give up smoking i had problems with chest being tight all the time, it does get better in time, also your stamina should improve a bit, well done for not smoking as it is very hard to do,

I believe some people do feel bad before they get better. Well done you for stopping, the best thing you could possibly do for yourself and your loved ones.

Don't hesitate to contact your GP for help will you, there's always a possibility you feel bad because you're unwell & not just your lungs clearing from all those years of stuff going down. I'm sure you will improve. As Hypercat says, you may get more support on the quitting forum as they're all going through it. Good luck, P

Well done it does take t come out of the system especially when you have other things going on. Take care. Dont leave it if still not feeling good just in case it's an infection

Welcome to the group, recalling when I gave up I remember feeling very unwell . Keep up the good work you are doing well it takes some time to clear the lungs. Lots of fluids help, with a little exercise. It will get easier as time goes on. Every best wish , hope to speak to you again soon.

Sounds like you are doing ok with the lack of ciggies but if what's coming up is green it would be worth getting it checked out by gp since that often will indicate bacterial infection that you will need help to clear rather than it being just the gums from years of smoking.its not so unusual to get infections after giving up.

I am a few days off 5 months. Took some time to clear most of the gunk but never had green always white. Still get little short of breath but have COPD and Emphasema. And good in general. I suggest you get checked out on your green gunk though.

Hi please dont give up i know its hard i smoked for 45yrs and gave up 10yrs ago with copd which is managable with oxygen and inhalors in the early 60s when i started it was encouraged to combat stress if only we had known then what we know now, smoking is a killer.

Hi saw your post and that you had given up the cigs after 30 years. Good for you now you have to keep off them, lungs are precious things, look after them.

Why are you feeling so bad, is it withdrawal from the smokes? It does take time after so long a smoker, most of us have been thro' that barrier so for your lungs sake you must keep up the good work, keep at it, good luck

Thanks again ALL for the replies and suppot.

I got myself a mountain bike (cycle) on sunday, all down hill on the way back, today, monday, Ive done a 8 kilometer round trip, not so down hill, who ever thought it be so hard on the legs, there again the last time I rode one was 31 years ago. That sure did give the lungs and legs a very very good workout and feeling after all the pain a little better
